Topic: One of my all time favorite Joe subjects! Rockpalast.

So Joe is playing Radio City Music Hall and we are all excited, even those of us that are not able to make the trip.  I cannot wait to see the DVD/Blue Ray and hear the reviews.  We know from experience that no matter how high our expectations are Joe just blows them away. (Sorry about the pressure Joe, but it's your fault and we love you for it.)  It all started again for me when someone posted the Pain and Sorrow thread a couple weeks ago.   Of course I had to go back and revisit that cut, that led me back to "ROCKPALAST".  I pulled out the DVD and watched it again last night for the umpteenth time.  My God, it is spectacular.  From the candles (is there any fire marshal in the U.S. that would allow that  ), to the leather shoe lace Joe has tied around his neck.  I owned a night club in the '70's across from Michigan State University, we had talent such as Charlie Musselwhite, Luther Allison, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Aerosmith, Joe Walsh (the local fire marshal tried to shut us down for over crowding and Joe W. would not stop. My partner jumped on stage and tried to wrestle the guitar away from Joe, but that is a story for another time), Frampton's Camel, KISS, BTO, REO and on and on.  I also owned a club in Florida and had many groups, but the pride of my career was SRV.  It was so exciting to watch these groups, living on next to nothing playing clubs, giving everything they had, believing in their music.  That is where I see Joe in Rockpalast.  Playing as he said, "louder and faster than anyone else".  It is raw, it is electric, it is emotional.  I have absolutely no complaints about what Joe is doing now. In fact, it is the best I have ever seen.  But, I would love to see Joe, at some point in his career, go back to the "power trio".  To me, there is nothing better.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

That opening to Takin the hit is Gold.

Not to move away from your main point but is it official that we are getting the radio city show on Bluray/dvd?

Re: One of my all time favorite Joe subjects! Rockpalast.

As good, and as polished, as the RAH DVD is, (I've never seen the Beacon DVD), I have always preferred the Rockpalast show.  More piss & vinegar, more flying-by-the-seat-of-your-pants feel.   But maybe that's just me.

I have alot of artists I seem to feel that way about- Keith Urban (great player, if you aren't aware!), love his older Golden Road/Be Here stuff (and DVD), like his newer stuff less and less... too produced, to polished, loses something.....

Well said! Joe has been constantly evolving from album to album and embraces change rather than staying in the pocket and playing it safe (which is extremely impressive imho).  This lack of fear to experiment will make Joe eventually become a superstar (yeah I know, we all already see him that way but there are always more fans to conquer).  That being said, I give a huge +1 to the above comment!  To me a future G3 tour with "power trio Joe" would create the ultimate concerts!!!

Ditto that Bobkat .. It appears we think alike .. did the same thing .. lol

Hope ur doin well, my friend.

When I first found Joe (utube's North Sea Jazz Festival w/ Joe's School program interview), it showed me what I great musician and wonderful person this lad was. The show introduced me to his "quiet time" stints and pure energy.

This led me to the Rockpalast evening. Simply blew me away! .. I was hooked!

Rockpalast! .. gives me goosebumps every time I watch!

Thanks for the post smile

If ur interested in goin down memory lane .. I've attached the North Sea show and interview with the kids ..
