One for us Northerners;

Bit 11th hour, but its a good venue on my doorstep and every now and then we try to kick some life into the beast;

March 7th @ Mainsforth Community Centre, Ferryhill (5 mins off the A1 in Co. Durham) they're hosting Sean Webster with support from local band Midnite Blue.
So if you're still rocking after Ron Sayer playing neighbouring Sedgefield the night before, come along.

I'm hoping to catch Walter Trout at ARC in Stockton. I've not been there before - anyone what the layout at the venue is - seating/standing? many thanks. Dave

Very much depends on how many they expect in on the night. Sometimes standing though they can arrange seats theatre style, or club style around tables. The main performance room is a quarter bowl shape with the stage at the corner point. Along one side are banked seats as well as a sort of balcony facing the stage.
The venue does fair meals and has 2 good sized bars outside the room if you want to make a night of it. Parking's not bad either, there's a carpark just over the road, but I usually go to the park near Skinnergate Cycles (check Googlr maps) as it's free all night after 6pm.
Good venue on the whole, clean, comfortable, good sound, but like a lot of new(ish) builds, lacks a bit atmosphere.

Northumbria S.U. used to be a cracking venue (back when it was part of the Polytechnic), but they're not hot on promoting their gigs, as Chantel McGregor's show back in December proved (barely a dozen punters). Hope Laurence Jones manages better, considering what he did at The Cluny a couple of months ago.

Also, want to include this exciting news from Darlington promoter Mike Prendergast:-

Just to keep you guys in the loop:

I've been asked by the new owners of the Majestic Music Venue in Bondgate, Darlington to book bands for their Friday night live music events.
I will be acting as a Booking Agent for them, [along with Darlington based musician Dave Ward, who will attend events when I can't due to Darlington R'n'B Club and Gasto Promotions commitments].

The next gig is this Friday 31st July when Teesside band BIG SIGH & THE YAWNS will be playing. Tickets are £5 on the door from 8pm for this, and all future gigs.


The aim is to establish the venues down stair's room as a venue for local bands, and when refurbishments are complete upstairs, that room will be a concert hall for bigger events.
Please support the Majestic if you are able to attend any of the dates.

Just got word, via Sean Webster's website that Ferryhill Mainsforth Community Centre has closed its doors, for the foreseeable future.
Sean was due to play later this month, and plans were afoot for a show in November featuring The Della Grants; Sean's is certainly cancelled and looks the same for The Della Grants but if things change, I'll keep you informed.

9/9/15 - Edit:- Word is that closure is temporary, due to refurbishment in the bar. More detail as they come.
