Umm...reluctant to show my ignorance here but what was up with the "Ded Nugent" shirts?

Ded Nugent is the name of the band made up of Joe's crew. The whole thing is somewhat tongue and cheek. Jim Moody is an honorary member/part time drummer smile All the guys in the acoustic band were wearing shirts with the name of the band on them. Here is a photo of the guys just before taking their bow with the shirts on: https://www.flickr.com/photos/anitrasdance/15228852323/

Re: Columbus show - Who's going and where you staying

The show in Columbus was great. Saw Tal before the show and was able to give him the Rock Candy Funk Party shirt we had gotten for him. He was so happy to get it and wore it that night at the show. Joe seemed like he was more relaxed and enjoying himself compared with the Cincinnati show. His solos were fantastic and you could tell he was really into it. No doubt it had helped that he had a day off in between. That guy works too hard and is going to burn himself out if he's not careful. Our seats were up in the loge which gave a nice view of the stage and it was only as far away as about the 12th row on the floor. I filmed the whole show. There was a very young boy in the front row and what a special night he had. Joe gave him his slide during "John Henry" and in the middle of the quiet part in "Mountain Time" the little kid piped up, "Can I have a pick?" and sure enough Joe handed him over a pick and didn't even miss a note while he was playing. It was really cool. I don't think anything makes Joe happier than seeing young kids enjoying his music. There were a few loud mouths that Joe kind of shushed at one point, and the rest he ignored. The clients we brought loved the acoustic set the best and one was planning on buying the Vienna show when he got home. Great night all around smile

THIS is why Joe is so awesome!  I have no doubt that this is what gives him more joy than anything else.  He really wants to "keep the blues alive" by passing on his love for the blues to others, particularly younger kids.

Again, thanks Natasha for the videos!!

Re: Columbus show - Who's going and where you staying

Natasha, your filming is so professional and perfect, don't know how you do it!  You sure had a terrific vantage point.

Saw you across the theater when you were up at the stage but then you were gone.  Sorry to miss saying hi.  Had a blast with Mike and Sherry, Rogue and Marge, and super meeting Hogsniper and Tamara, and Kevin Parks and son Hunter!  Sure wish we could have caught up with Whirlwind.

Noticed for the first two songs Joe sang some higher parts an octive lower than normal.  Maybe saving his voice, or not warmed up yet?  Thought it took away from those tunes a little.  But the whole show was awesome!!

This show more than others I've seen had all the members of the band seeming much more relaxed and interacting and laughing together.  Joe takes it all so seriously but he was having some fun, despite the hand injury!  We suspected something was wrong by the way he was moving his hands.  I have always been surprised he greets all the M&G folks with a handshake, seems too risky...weird things can happen when you least expect it.  Sure hope the damage was minor.

Ahh, every show I see I realize how much of a privilege it is to see Joe perform.

Re: Columbus show - Who's going and where you staying

Thanks for educating me Natasha.

I was really amazed at how much effort Joe puts into his guitar work.  When he was playing some of those riffs, I could see his jaw muscles twitching - guess you could say he puts everything into his performance.

Re: Columbus show - Who's going and where you staying

The show was brilliant. Quite honestly, maybe the best guitar performance I have ever seen. Could someone please post the setlist?

It looked like Joe played Principal Skinner for the first few songs. But not sure which was the other Les Paul he played. Any ideas?

Re: Columbus show - Who's going and where you staying

We say the Columbus and the Youngstown shows along with various sets of our bona-buddies and the shows were absolutely outstanding.  The Youngstown show was our 6th show and still he leaves us in shock by the end of the show.  Joe did a really great job of both mixing in some new songs along re-working the solos of some of his older songs (Sloe Jin, John Henry, etc).  Also, the version of Django / Mountain Time through the Stratocaster and fender amp line was simply amazing - best I have ever heard that song live.

The sound was amazing through his new vintage rig with minimal effects.  I actually liked the sound of this rig better than his older rig with the Dumbles, Marshalls, and all the peddles though I would have never thought it was possible to like his sounds more than I did!

Bona-Vegas, here we come!

You have not experienced what a truly emotion filled solo is until you have seen Joe play Sloe Gin in person.

The other Les Paul he played was his newest acquisition, Carmelita, a gorgeous '57 burst

Thanks guys....it was so much fun and tomorrow I will get to see him in Youngstown with my wife.

It was so cool to see the lights come on the stage after the AC/dC song and see the band in those Ded Nugent t-shirts....my son and I both loved that.

The whole acoustic set was really good and my son just loves Jelly Roll smile

it is so fun to watch these guys ,as they sound so good and have such a darn fun time doing what they do.

Joe's left leg and foot never stop tapping the whole acoustic set, and every time his left leg tapped, my right leg tapped!

When they played Athens To Athens, i seriously wiped my cheek and eye of a few tears...it was soooooo good.....I am not sure if it was that the band having so much fun or the fact that my son and I were sharing this great experience together.....I am not sure....but i was a happy guy.

The way that Gerry was jamming on that fiddle and smiling and Mats was smiling and Lenny was so into it......Lenny....I love you man.  that was indeed the best acoustic experience that I have ever witnessed.

During the brief intermission, we never left our seat....we were afraid we would miss something.

Now....the electric set....good lord......wow!!!!

Buzzy.....you are so right....i am still riding high and am still so stoked up.

What a wonderful experience......my son said my head never stopped bobbing for the whole 90 minutes.

There was a time when Joe was playing his really low and soft solo that he had to shush the crowd, but it was mainly just a few people that kept shouting at him.

My son and I both really love the way this band interacts with each other and the fun that they are having....it is very contagious and it has to rub off on the audience.....I know it sure did on us and it is such a pleasure to see.

Lenny and Derick smiling at each other and Carmine and Lenny and Tal and Derick....it just makes for a wonderful thing to see.

Those 90 minutes of that electric set were stunning, to say the least.

the lights were bright at times, and yes....all dials were turned to the right......and we loved every minute.....not a single complaint from me.

Joe.....I have no idea if you will ever read this....but just in case you ever do.....we love you man!

Just keep doing what you are doing, because you had that crowd  going and the show was wonderful.

it was the firsr time for us seeing you, and I will see you again tomorrow night in Youngstown....this time with my wife.

You have made this my best weekend, not only for this year....but for the last few years.  smile

I did a little street teaming for you for the concert and someday I really hope to meet you , sir....you are a true professional and you have me  looking forward to hear your music, most everyday........I thank you for that.

Good bless you and keep on keeping on.

A happy fan, forever.

Love this review.  I totally understand how you feel.  They do seem to be enjoying themselves and it does rub off on the crowd.  I think Joe and all the band mates are fun and a class act all the way.

Re: Columbus show - Who's going and where you staying

Great reviews and Natasha the joy of your interactions with Tal and Carmine is showing through in these videos.  Love it and  I hate to say it but How on earth can Joe get any better tongue
