Topic: Cincinnati Music Hall Cincinnati OH 11/18/14

Next Cincy show is a week away. This will be my 3rd time seeing Joe and company in Cincinnati, the two prior shows were at Taft Theater in March 2011 about week before the release of Dust Bowl and November 2012. The 2012 included special guests Greg Martin from the Kentucky Head Hunters and J D Simo. I've never been to this venue, my oldest and dearest friend a violinist has seen the Cincinnati Symphony there and says it's a beautiful venue.  The tickets were sold directly through the venue and I had some sort of snafu accepting my email address when trying to buy online during presale. As luck would have it I ended up calling the venue and getting front row seats by phone I couldn't believe it!!!

From what I've read this will be the last with the acoustic ensemble, I've been fortunate to see them with Joe 3 times before it will be sad but hopefully they will join Joe again sometime in the future smile

Looking forward to seeing Phil & Natasha again. Anyone else from here going to Cincy?

It'll be great to see you again Lizzee! Wow, looks like it's going to be darn cold next Tuesday. Joe and the guys better stay bundled. Don't want anyone getting sick. So excited for the shows! Can't wait to hear all the new songs. Saw that Dust Bowl was recently added to the acoustic set - very cool! Only 5 more days!!

Re: Cincinnati Music Hall Cincinnati OH 11/18/14

Lizzee...I will be there...7th show in 2.5 years and still smiling from the Red Rocks show.

Re: Cincinnati Music Hall Cincinnati OH 11/18/14

Was at the show last night, my second one.  Great performance!  Was really happy to see the accoustic set, loved the Royal Albert hall concert so I was really happy to see all of the guys there.

I would like to apologize to Joe and the rest of the band for the way some of the people acted at the show last night.  You can expect cheers and shouts, but there are obvious times when you should be quiet.  Joe actually yelled "shutup!" and put his finger up to his lips to silence people at one point.  He even asked people to be quiet for one song and some woman immediately yelled at him that she was in love with him.  Guess thats what happens when you sell $4.50 budweisers.

Anyway, you have my apologies.  Great show and hope you come back!

Re: Cincinnati Music Hall Cincinnati OH 11/18/14

We had a great time seeing Joe and everyone last night. Have to agree about the obnoxious behavior. We had quite an experience right where we were sitting. We brought Phil's clients with us to the show and one of them is a very large man who is very well connected in Cincinnati. There was a very drunk and obnoxious woman sitting behind all of us and was ruining the whole acoustic set for everyone around her. Phil asked her to be quiet a number of times and she of course became more irate and obnoxious saying that no one was being bothered. Well everyone around her started speaking up and telling her it did bother them. She became more belligerent to the point that Phil's client stood up towering over everyone and confronted her about her behavior. She spat out what sounded like some sort of gypsy curse at him and he yelled back some retort in the same language. BAM!  He's like "You're done!" He went out to the lobby, got a few security people he knew and she was out of there. Luckily this scene occurred during the intermission. It was so nice to have peace during the electric set. We need to bring this guy with us to all the shows smile Otherwise great show by Joe. Was wonderful hearing the new songs and some of the Muddy Wolf ones as well. Really liked "Dust Bowl" being acoustic, a nice change and "Different Shades of Blue" was an acoustic treat as well.

Re: Cincinnati Music Hall Cincinnati OH 11/18/14

I think it's been said on this forum before that this obnoxious behaviour and shouting out seems to be a North American thing, as it doesn't generally tend to happen in Europe. Audiences over here tend to show some respect and cheer at the end of a song or after a great solo.

Check out this video (quality isn't brilliant, but it's good enough) - the British blues band King King are currently supporting John Mayall in the UK and half way through their version of Old Love the lights go down and Alan Nimmo plays quieter and quieter during his solo until his pickups are actually switched off (you may need to turn the volume up on the video at this point). The audience is so entranced they are completely silent and you can hear a pin drop. At the end, Alan and the band get a standing ovation. It's all about respect...

The biggest contributing factor to the obnoxious behavior is alcohol. When the venues offer it, the behavior is worse. We saw both Ronnie Earl and Beth Hart at a theatre in NJ that doesn't sell alcohol and both audiences were very respectful. At Ronnie Earl's show you could have heard a pin drop during his quiet solos.

It's weird isn't it. It's hard to understand why people would act that way just because they've been drinking. We saw King King in Germany recently and they actually had waitress service, so people could drink without having to leave to go to the bar, and yet everybody was still silent during that solo...

In the very small venues that are seated with drink and food service it is usually much better, but when you have theatres of over 2500 that's where you run into the most problems. The more people, the more issues.

Here are the last of the songs from the show that I recorded.

Athens to Athens http://youtu.be/I_Ytbz08GjY

Love Ain't A Love Song http://youtu.be/iLq7iKiNa0c

Ballad of John Henry http://youtu.be/sp-r5uaF_V4  At about the 5:49 mark you can see where Joe beckons to Lizzee to catch the slide he throws to her smile What a great guy Joe is!

Yeah, it's a shame. I guess we can be grateful we don't tend to have this problem over here, whatever the size of venue or availability of alcohol.

Thanks for your sterling efforts in recording and posting the videos - we're going to see Eric Steckel next week so we've been watching the videos you posted of him in concert in preparation!

Re: Cincinnati Music Hall Cincinnati OH 11/18/14

Hey everyone! First time poster, long time reader of the board. This Cincinnati show was my 5th time seeing Joe and he sounded better than ever.  Band was tight as well. Really good acoustics in this building! However, I have complete opposite feeling than most do in this post. I always feel the crowd at these shows are much too reserved and quiet. It's a blues/rock show, not an Opera! So what if people want to express themselves through occasionally yelling out or actually "feeling" the music. And God forbid someone has a few cocktails and actually are having a good time. I find it more annoying when people shush someone or tell someone to sit down, which I heard someone do to a lady who was having a good time and enjoying the music, then someone yelling out "Joe".  Most of the crowd was acting like the Cincinnati Pops was in the buiding, or at a funeral for that matter. The crowds are boring at these shows and that takes away the fun for me.  Maybe it's the older generation attending these shows and the lack of younger fans attending. I not young at 43, but everyone else had a good 10 years on me it seems.  I don't understand the lack of young fans. Maybe they are afraid they will be told to "shut up" at a at a blues/rock show. It's just wierd to me. Still love Joe, but sure wish some of his fans would loosen up a little! Rock on everyone!  But just do it quietly!

Re: Cincinnati Music Hall Cincinnati OH 11/18/14

Hello! Welcome to the forum, officially smile I see where you are coming from in your opinion, but for me, I think there are certain times to be loud and certain times to be quiet. I remember specifically sitting at the show and wishing people would be quiet during the quieter parts. It's hard to get into it and feel the music when you have people shouting during all the intimate parts of the songs. I do my fair share of girly screams at the shows haha, but more so when I feel it's appropriate. I saw a band called Volbeat not too long ago and the atmosphere was entirely different to where I was screaming the whole time! big_smile The band encouraged it actually, but with Joe he draws a classier crowd, and the music draws me in so much, that hollering during intimate parts is just disrespectful. Again, my opinion as everyone is different!

I agree with you eregoo. For me if someone is in front of me and standing up the whole time and with the high prices for my tickets you can bet I will tell them to sit down. If they get up to applaud that is cool but to decide to stand up and have no respect for the person behind you is totally disrespectful. Yes older crowed at Joes show I have trying to do my part to get the under 20 crowd in. Let's all try to do the same
