Topic: Grammy's

It used to mean something, and maybe it still does to some, but I can't help feeling it is getting de-valued as time goes by.

Who the hell picks these things?

'Cut me some slack' best Rock Song? You must be joking. Not only that but an insult to the thousands of other artists slaving at writing and recording music out there.

I love Dave Grohl and all he does. The movie/doc 'Sound City' is a fabulous piece of work from a very creative and talented guy. If Dave Grohl wrote a cookbook I would buy it because I just like what he does.

I liked that he got some serious musos together and banged out 'Cut me some slack' in 3 hours, and he is right, that IS what Rock 'n Roll is all about, but I don't think he should get a best Rock Song Grammy for it.

If he has got it for the simplistic way it was done, and the Grammy is to reward him for showing people that it isn't about taking a Chinese Democracy length of time to produce something then maybe it has some merit.

If not, then when 4, admittedly very talented guys start getting Grammy's for their outtakes and just goofing around in the studio then it is no wonder the industry has gone to hell in a handcart.

It just felt to me that this was another case of ego massaging by the Grammy awards people.

Rant over.

Re: Grammy's

I watched it at a restaurant bar with the sound down. We had a good time making fun of what we saw on the screen. When Paul and Ringo hit the stage the bar keep turned  up the volume the All Star band was a highlight simply because I spotted Lenny Castro on percussion. Other than that it was a total waste of time and a bad joke. I guess Pink's  Cirque du Soleil act was somewhat entertaining.

Re: Grammy's

I did end up watching most if the show. Most of it I could do without.I liked the Metallica with Long Long pianist.Ringo and Paul were good.I thought the Srevie Wonder Daft Punk song was actually pretty good.Pink's visual performance was good the song didn't do anything for me.I know they at least try to cater to different generations.

Re: Grammy's

I endured thru it in the afternoon and the evening.

Afternoon Highlights for me:  Hearing and seeing Joe & Beth's names!  That was uber cool!  smile  cool

Evening Highlights for me:  Keith Urban & Gary Clark Jr.     No secret that I am KU fan.    After seeing him in concert I am    convinced that he is a genuinely kind soul and very fan friendly, plus he's pretty impressive on the guitar too. No match for my Numero Uno Joe though wink   I thought their performance was "normal" and not full of outlandish stuff.  I have always loved the Fab Four, so always enjoy Paul & Ringo.  Can't say there was much else that did anything for me.  Love Carole King but seemed  she was having to "oversing" to be heard.  I thought Taylor Swift gave herself a good case of whiplash??????  Now nobody made me watch it, so the ones I didn't like, well it's just my opinion.  wink

Patty, LMFAO as well with Gary!!! I thought the same thing!! We sooooo think alike...Your comment elsewhere about the weddings, my feelings as well.  Its not about whether one believes its right or wrong, to me, its more about that old expression we use to hear when we were growing up... about the right time and place.  Just felt it was Hollywood agenda, did not belong on the music awards...and pushing it on the youth...IMO

Anyway, thanks for the whiplash laugh! lol

I didn't tune in during the day, but the next day when I read the paper I found out someone who lives in my town of 19,000 won 2 Grammys in the Gospel category!
