Topic: Grammy's
It used to mean something, and maybe it still does to some, but I can't help feeling it is getting de-valued as time goes by.
Who the hell picks these things?
'Cut me some slack' best Rock Song? You must be joking. Not only that but an insult to the thousands of other artists slaving at writing and recording music out there.
I love Dave Grohl and all he does. The movie/doc 'Sound City' is a fabulous piece of work from a very creative and talented guy. If Dave Grohl wrote a cookbook I would buy it because I just like what he does.
I liked that he got some serious musos together and banged out 'Cut me some slack' in 3 hours, and he is right, that IS what Rock 'n Roll is all about, but I don't think he should get a best Rock Song Grammy for it.
If he has got it for the simplistic way it was done, and the Grammy is to reward him for showing people that it isn't about taking a Chinese Democracy length of time to produce something then maybe it has some merit.
If not, then when 4, admittedly very talented guys start getting Grammy's for their outtakes and just goofing around in the studio then it is no wonder the industry has gone to hell in a handcart.
It just felt to me that this was another case of ego massaging by the Grammy awards people.
Rant over.
