Topic: Helsinki 13/10/2013 gig

About 3000 fans in Hartwall Areena that was slip in two parts with a huge curtain to create more intimate atmosphere. The ice rink area - less than a half that is normally used in hockey games - consisted guite simple stage set up and some hundred seats. Set list  did not give any surprises (song-wise) but musically it was another superb evening ranging from touchy low volume parts to pounding heavy/hard rock performances. Personally I was extremely excited to hear "Driving towards to daylight" and "Song of yeterday" wich ended with massive Who-like mayhem (well, there was 2 out of 4 of the BCC lineup on stage). Carmine Rojas was again that old trusted baseman, Tal Bergman did same strong drum performance as last time I saw JB and Derek Sherenian showed great versatility and poured both sweet and nasty ingredients (acoustic "Jelly Roll" got some boogie flavor and "The Ballad of John Henry" attacked with a massive progressive/hard rock mid part).

All in all: I've seen and heard more than half of those song live now three times and every time arrangements have been different. That gives me a feeling that JB really does it for us - fans.

Songs (more details f.ex setlist.fm):

Acoustic part:
Palm Trees Helicopters and Gasoline
Seagull
Jelly Roll
Athens to Athens
Woke Up Dreaming

Electric part:
Dust Bowl
Story of a Quarryman
Who's Been Talking
Someday After a While
Dislocated Boy
Driving Towards The Daylight
Slow Train
Midnight Blues
Look Over Yonders Wall
Song of Yesterday
Django
Mountain Time

Encore:
Sloe Gin
The Ballad of John Henry

Re: Helsinki 13/10/2013 gig

Thanks for the report. It is encouraging to hear the sound was ok. The show scheduled here in December is a similar type of hall. Ice rink stadium that can be cut with a drape curtain. Great set list as well.

Re: Helsinki 13/10/2013 gig

I wonder if Someday After Awhile is going to be on Joe's next album since he's been doing live recently.

Since it's almost sure to appear on Beth & Joe's DVD and hopefully subsequent CD, I doubt it would be on Joe's next album. But you never know smile

I'll take it!
If the youtube vids of this song were a VHS tape, it'd be worn out by now.

Re: Helsinki 13/10/2013 gig

I agree with katclark.   This song is just fabulous.  Love all the versions I have found on youtube of Joe singing this with so much heart

Re: Helsinki 13/10/2013 gig

My first Bonamassa concert and soooo happy I finally got the chance to go. Got a seat on row 3, then moved to row 2 for the encores as quite a few on the right hand side had not appeared.

Check out a select 8 of the songs I filmed that night on UTube (Bimbomable). (for some reason no links were allowed, but just type in Bonamassa Helsinki and you'll get started)

Looking for more material for a multicam fans-only bluray of the concert. Also, did anyone tape it? The sound on my Sony HX-20V is quite good for the most part but the louder parts could have more scope.

Only a handful of clips on Tube apart from my own. So if you have any, please contact me. The bluray is not for commercial purposes.

cheers,
Bonafidemassa
