Topic: Robbie Williams.....no really !!

Now I was brought up on Led Zeppelin, Free, Rory Gallagher, Humble Pie, Jimi, Joe Cocker and Thin Lizzy so boy bands and their ilk really don't move me or rate very highly in music terms as far as I'm concerned.

But - I have just watched the RW DVD of the live concert in Knebworth where the crowd must have been around the 100,000 mark.
What a master of playing the crowd, and some great songs as well. Intimate chats with individuals in the crowd with 100,000 watching - and it didn't seem naff.I know how I feel when I've met Joe after a gig. Imagine what it must have felt like for the couple in the audience who RW chatted to, then dedicated the next song to (She's the One) and then gave her his coat. I think it was a moving night for him and the audience and it showed. Fantastic band behind him.

At one point RW played a Gibson accoustic (J200 ?) but the fret markers were RWs instead of the usual block markers. Bit blingy but nice. Amazing moment when he got the whole crowd to take a flash photo all at the same time.

Must say, I really enjoyed it all.

Re: Robbie Williams.....no really !!

Hey Ges I was there on one of the nights!  The atmosphere at Knebworth was truly amazing with everyone bouncing on command and 100,000 people singing along to Angels.  You have to admit whether you like him or not he is the ultimate showman.  The energy and enthusiasm he projects is truly electric.  He just has the whole audience in the palm of his hand.  I've actually seen him live twice, at Cardiff and at Knebworth but preferred Cardiff.  For a start it didn't take an hour to walk to the loos and another hour back again and then forget where you left your friends so you spend another 30 minutes on the mobile to them trying to spot them waving, when everyone else is doing the same!  Happy days.

Hi Lyn

Excellent !!

For an ex Boy Band guy I think he actually does have some serious talent.
My 15 YO son is front man in his rock band and they played Let Me Entertain You as the opener - and pretty good it was too.

Know what you mean about the loos in a huge crowd.
My wife and I (sounds a bit regal that) went to see the Stones in Sheffield at the open air arena a few years ago and we daren't go in case we couldn't find each other again. We had a great spot near the front and didn't want to end up at the back. Standing up for lots of hours was also less than comfortable.

Why do we do it ?
Oh yes........I've just remembered. Aaaahhhhhhhhhh.
