Topic: Robbie Williams.....no really !!
Now I was brought up on Led Zeppelin, Free, Rory Gallagher, Humble Pie, Jimi, Joe Cocker and Thin Lizzy so boy bands and their ilk really don't move me or rate very highly in music terms as far as I'm concerned.
But - I have just watched the RW DVD of the live concert in Knebworth where the crowd must have been around the 100,000 mark.
What a master of playing the crowd, and some great songs as well. Intimate chats with individuals in the crowd with 100,000 watching - and it didn't seem naff.I know how I feel when I've met Joe after a gig. Imagine what it must have felt like for the couple in the audience who RW chatted to, then dedicated the next song to (She's the One) and then gave her his coat. I think it was a moving night for him and the audience and it showed. Fantastic band behind him.
At one point RW played a Gibson accoustic (J200 ?) but the fret markers were RWs instead of the usual block markers. Bit blingy but nice. Amazing moment when he got the whole crowd to take a flash photo all at the same time.
Must say, I really enjoyed it all.
