Re: HAMMERSMITH APOLLO

The show was amazing. The band were really on fire tonight. The set started out with an acoustic section with songs such as seagull, jellyroll, richmond, athens to athens and woke up dreaming. The electric section kicked in with cradle rock, When the Fire hits the sea, dustbowl. Doug Henthorn sang back up vocals on driving towards the daylight and my personal highlight of the night, Dislocated boy. He did sing on some others which escape me at the moment. He then ofcourse sang main vocals on Tea for One. Joe also performed who's been talking and the ballad of john henry. He then encored with sloe gin and finally Just got paid. Im sure there were a number of songs ive forgotten.
To sum up it was an amazing night and a great performance from Joe and the band.

Re: HAMMERSMITH APOLLO

Hi all, back from Night 3 (Night 2 for me) of Joe's London extravaganza. Yet another fantastic evening, and boy was it Rock Night, my ears are ringing still (2 hours on). For starters the acoustic mini-set offered those of us unable to attend the Borderline show to see Joe as apart of a (Less)power-trio, before the 5-piece took to stage for the remainder of the evening. This was an unexpected start to the evening as was anticipating that being reserved for the RAH show on Saturday, but was certainly most welcome seeing as I've had the Live at Vienna CD on relentlessly the last few days. For those who claim that acoustic rock is boring need to see Joe play a song like Woke Up Dreaming and witness how much a solo acoustic performance can rock. Also really enjoyed the interplay between the trio on Athens To Athens.

As for the rest of the evening we were treated to tracks from 8 out of ten of his solo albums, so his back catalogue well represented. The highlights for me were Sloe Gin and Jockey Full Of Bourbon, with the treat of the night being Tea For One something i feel most will agree with, especially based on the audiences response afterwards. This also being a song I never would of imagined hearing live. Just Got Paid was the perfect end to rock night, what a treat to hear Joe play superbly 2 Jimmy Page solos in one evening. Earlier in the evening i did fear the venue would need evacuating as it appeared as if Arlan was going to burst in to flames during his keyboard solo in Dislocated Boy due to the intensity of his performance. Once again I am now gonna kick back and relax after yet another fantastic performance, til Saturday night, thank you Joe.

Re: HAMMERSMITH APOLLO

Michael asked me at the pub after the show what I really thought. After a hard think, only best ever came to mind. He seemed in accord. This was totally intense. The whole band was afire. Joe was in total command and masterful, Lenny Castro, Tal and Carmine held it all together with style and aplomb.  Arlan is stupendous, just mind blowing talent. You'll see the video of Dislocated Boy when he jumps up on the organ in the middle of a long solo break and plays it like a madman. Hair flying and just crazy good stuff with sounds you never heard before. Colors and shapes of the light show swirling around the stage. Then Doug comes on and sings Tea For One in a stunning presentation. Besides the power of the band, the one thing that put it over the top was something I hadn't ever seen properly. Our seats were middle front row balcony. The light show was absolutely mind blowing which most of the folks at floor level never see. The patterns that walk and circle on the stage floor are colored and synchronized to the songs and really are spectacular.

Each show has been unique so far and comparisons really don't apply so it comes down to personal preference.  I have no idea how Joe will top this show in two days but I sure am looking forward to the attempt.

Re: HAMMERSMITH APOLLO

Is the RAH supposed to be something hugely different? This is pretty similar to how the regular tour set has been going so far. Anybody have any clues to what he's doing at the Albert Hall?

Re: HAMMERSMITH APOLLO

Sounds like another stunner!!  T41 makes me giddy. lol  Kevin tweeted a picture of Arlan ontop of the organ. I never would have thought he had that much wild man in him. smile Probably a very good thing there's a breather tomorrow. Thanks for all the filma and reviews smile

JBFan1.. Joe said the RAH would start acoustic, then a break, the full band, including horns wink
