Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

OK....
Skyfall: Liked it heaps better than the previous 2 (believable stunts)

The Hobbit : seen it twice. Can't wait for the next...

Les Mis: WOW!!!!  Absolutely captivating !  I almost didn't go as I'm not a 'musical' man. To think what I nearly missed... People were applauding at movies' end

The Hobbit and Les Mis must be seen on the Big Screen.  If not...  you missed something special   I.M.O.

Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

My wife and I have been playing a really fun game. It really only works if you have a really large movie collection (we have around 500). But the rules are:

Pick a movie
The next movie must include an actor from that movie
Don't pick 3 consecutive movies with the same actor

Here's what we've done so far. The first actor mentioned is the one that connects to the previous movie in the list. The second actor is the one that connects to the next one in the list:
Iron Man - Faran Tahir
Star Trek (2009) - Faran Tahir, Simon Pegg
Mission Impossible III - Simon Pegg, Eddie Marsan
Sherlock Holmes - Eddie Marsan, Robert Downey Jr.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows - Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law (sort of cheated here because we were at my parents house)
Contagion - Jude Law, Matt Damon
Ocean's Eleven - Matt Damon, Brad Pitt
Se7en - Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman
The Dark Knight Rises - Morgan Freeman, Christian Bale
Terminator Salvation - Christian Bale, Bryce Dallas Howard
The Help - Bryce Dallas Howard, Emma Stone
The Amazing Spiderman - Emma Stone, Martin Sheen
Catch Me If You Can - Martin Sheen, Leonardo Dicaprio
Shutter Island - Leonard Dicaprio, Mark Ruffalo
The Avengers - Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L. Jackson
Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace - Samuel L. Jackson, Natalie Portman
Black Swan - Natalie Portman, Sebastian Stan
Captain America The First Avenger - Sebastian Stan, Stanley Stucci
The Hunger Games - Stanley Stucci, Jennifer Lawrence
X-Men First Class - Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender
Jane Eyre - Michael Fassbender, Mia Wasikowska
Alice In Wonderland - Mia Wasikowska, Anne Hathaway

And then tonight we will be watching the Get Smart remake with Anne Hathaway. Then we'll go from that. smile

Just saw Silver Linings last night Angela, and thought it was fab though the ending was a bit of a surprise.  Strong performances all around.

Heard this today. The new end credits Songs for 'The Desolation of Smaug', the next instalment in the Hobbit trilogy of films.

Seems they spontaneously chose Ed Sheeran who apparently wrote it straight after seeing the film in Wellington.

I like it. As usual numerous detractors have posted all sorts of guff. My god it is just for the end credits. The guy is a fan of the films. Sounds to me he has captured the spirit of the thing.

Just saw a digital copy of Gravity. Edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. Some of the best special effects and cinematography I've ever seen and it's got Sandra B. in it. How can you go wrong?

Why don't we eliminate all the warning labels and let things sort themselves out?

Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

Loved Wolf of Wall Street and Dallas Buyers Club.

Love the old films too. Hitchcock, etc

I saw Monuments Men last week.  The movie was meh, so, so, but the story intreagued me so much that i ordered the book to get more detail on the recovery of stolen art under Hitler in WWII.  Looking foward to the read.

Speaking of stolen art, there's a pretty good book out called "Priceless" by John Shiffman. He's an ex-undercover agent who specialized in the recovery of stolen art. Good read.

Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

loved dallas buyer's club. So glad Matthew won the Oscar. Hated Les Miz but then I"ve seen the play 4 times, 10 times better I think.

Hugh Jackman was a Broadway theater man, sang in plenty of musicals. Russell can't sing for s......... Sorry. LOLHe used to have a mediocre band
