Hoping to meet some forum and JB friends en route.
If you are in Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, NOLA or Mobile let me know. Tres, I've written to you already. Ready to put Birmingham on the list!

Hi Mike, I live in the South (in Louisiana) but I'm 5 and 1/2 hours north of New Orleans. I do travel there, though and it's a great place to visit. There is a House of Blues in the French Quarter, check current listings for who's playing there. Some time in the French Quarter is a must!
Another great area for live music is Frenchmen's Street. Here's a link: http://www.neworleansonline.com/tools/s … treet.html ... especially check out The Blue Nile.
The food in New Orleans is out of this world. Be prepared to gain much weight!
Should you decide to come north to Shreveport, let me know. There's not much here compared to New Orleans, but there's a warm bonabuddy welcome!
Let me know your plans. Have a great trip and safe travels!
... edited to say I'll add more specifics about the food in New Orleans and restaurant recommendations later this evening when I have more time.
... another edit: Mike when you're traveling to Birmingham or Memphis, it's really close to Mississippi and the Delta if you happen to be a Delta Blues fan ... that's another whole topic!
... one more P.S. It's Mardi Gras time in New Orleans and it's crazy! Millions of tourists and parades and the French Quarter is crammed. Let me get specific dates for you and get back to you.

I know a place ....
