Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

same here, I'll wait for anything that looks promising. My daughter brought me Stepbrothers over the holiday. I hope nobody went to the theater and paid to see this, it's Dumb and Dumber on steroids. However, if you like the comedy combo of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly then you should probably see it, once. It is quite outrageous, over the top, language from hell, and some "boys" exposed body parts. I laughed til my side hurt, and then it ended and seemed very silly and contrived.

I can't go to see movies in a cinema anymore.

Why? .... mobile phones ringing, constant chattering.... general noise, food being thrown about.... ect... ect....

I like to watch a movie in comfort, at home, in front of my flat screen away from the chaos that is prevalent at cinema's nowadays.

Saw Looper at the flicks a while ago. Enjoyable.
Two of my girls (twins)  saw 'The perks of being a wallflower' yesterday. Just ok they said.
One of them wants to take me to the JB movie. I'll go.

Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

Tradition in our household is to go to the 'flicks' on Christmas eve.
The 'rotten sods'  are opening The Hobbit on boxing day !! .... Bugger!!
Might be something good on...

PS: I have 3 daughters ... ages 22 and 19 so I'm surrounded by females !  lucky for me they all like most movies I like .  The wife on the other hand... is a bit more fussy...

Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

Went to see Jack Reacher.  I read the Lee Child books so was annoyed to see shrimpy Tom Cruise play the character.  But it was pretty good.  For anyone who doesn't know the books I think they will find it to be a pretty entertaining action movie.  For those that do read the books Hollywood didn't totally screw it up.  Surprising!

Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

Went to see Les Miserables on Friday.  Had never seen the play or read the book so it was all new to me.  Outstanding movie. Most of the lines are sung as it aparently is in the stage musical adaptation.   Anne Hathaway's performance was outstanding, albeit relatively short in duration.  probably the reason she's only up for best supporting actress insead of best actress.  I didn't know Hugh Jackman or Russell Crowe could sing.  Outstanding scenery, costumes, musical score, lyrics, etc.  Bit of a tear jerker, but understandable given the storyline.

Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

"Lincoln".......It was really good

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: Have you been to a good movie lately?

I've seen half of the movie Birdsong and just waiting for some free time to watch the second half.  I read the novel a long time ago and it's a great love story.  The photography in this film is absolutely stunning and the characters well cast.

reviews both professionally and from friends have been extremely good. It is a very good book and apparently the film is very true to the story which is superb (and thought provoking).

Intend to go see it this weekend.

Excellent screenplay of a great book. A boatload of Academy nominations are well deserved. The spiritual journey underlying the physical challenges and adventure make it even more well done and adds thought provoking depth to the story. Amazing cine work and direction by director Lee. May take all the honors for the year.  See it!
