Topic: Single From "Sloe Gin"

Just curious if Joe is going to release any singles from "Sloe Gin" to the radio stations.  I know it has been awhile since he has done that but there seems to be some radio friendly songs on the new CD.  Would be great if there was so we could do our part in trying to get airplay.

Re: Single From "Sloe Gin"

Hi David. It has been suggested that we forward songs that have been e-mailed to us to radio stations. Angela and I have agreed that "Another Kind of Love" is very radio friendly. Just an idea of where to start.    Cathy

Re: Single From "Sloe Gin"

I think as far as "radio friendly" goes, Dirt In My Pocket is the best. It's bluesy, but not in a way that will make people go, "Oh, that's blues." Which can be the kiss of death. That's why I don't think Another Kind Of Love would work. I think Ball Peen Hammer would work as well. The thing about Dirt In My Pocket and Ball Peen Hammer is they're very epic songs. The key is to turn people onto bluesy material without them knowing it's blues. That's what worked with Los Lonely Boys and their hit single, Heaven. That has some blues and a lot of roots rock in it, but it was there in a way that wasn't blatantly obvious. It's sad that you have to do this, because people in general have a very negative opinion on blues.

Re: Single From "Sloe Gin"

On first listen, "Ball Peen Hammer" is the most radio-friendly. And when I say that, I mean, it was the first song on the album that immediately connected with me. The rhythm of that song is strong and is unique enough to make you pay close attention. that unique sound is good because you don't know in 10 seconds what the song wants to be, it's a slow build, and that keeps the interest on first listen. The song sets a mood; all those things that matter when you're trying to hook the uninitiated ear and you only have like a minute to do it before that ear moves to the next thing.

Don't miss the point fellas. You know the stations in your area, pick the song that is best suited for their format. This CD has songs for all genres...Cathy

I'm not missing the point. I'm just giving my take on what I believe the most "commercial" song would be.

Re: Single From "Sloe Gin"

The question that I was asking is Joe/management/record label going to "Officially" release a single.  It is good to forward info on our own to our local radio stations but in the past, there were some singles released.

I know that here in St. Louis the radio stations have been sent a press kit with the CD included.

KDHX 88.1, St. Louis's public radio station has already played Black Night and Ball Peen Hammer.

Rhonda ,I like that station already!, 2 great choices. That has brought a thought to my miniscule brain, how long are those songs. That is very important for play time on public stations. What is considered the maximum length for a song theses days....2:30 maybe?. I've never checked the duration of the each song.

Re: Single From "Sloe Gin"

Shred,

KDHX is different in that it is a public radio station. The Dj's or hosts are not paid. They each take a 1 to 2 hour shift each week in the same time slot. They have a name for their program and follow a format for they genre of music they choose. They are free to play what ever they want (following FCC regulations of course!). If they choose to play the same song over and over for 2 hours that is their choice. One of the great shows is "Down in the Alley" on Sunday nights from 8:30 - 10:00 pm CT. You can call in and request or email requests. Sometimes they have guest artists in the studio and feature many of their songs. This past week they had Kari from the Bottoms Up Blues Gang, a local group. Check them out at http://www.bottomsupblues.com/. If you are interested in catching any of the shows on KDHX, here is the link to their page and also to their listen on-line page. http://www.kdhx.org/    under the radio tab click on programs. To listen on-line  http://www.kdhx.org/index.php?option=co … Itemid=295

My buddy Michael Lynch already helped me out by sending the DJ for Down in the Alley a request for a Joe tune, telling them that he was listening on-line from England!

It is a great station with a little something for everyone! smile
