Topic: Any Phillip Sayce fans?

I've only been getting into his work in the past 12 months or so.  I think he is a phenomenal player.  I also think there is a lot of similarities in the genre of music that he plays with what Joe plays.  Both are keeping the flame of blues/rock alive with a younger audience.

Someone on the Gear Page posted this video recently.  I really enjoyed it:

WOW!!! He definitely get's his Hendrix on! smile

Comments on the drummer - he's playing "open", where the hi-hat is on his right-hand side and doesn't have to cross up his hands - and he's reversed his ride toms for different "phrasing" (Kenny Aronoff regularly does the same thing).

I'd heard a tune or two on my XM/Sirius radio - going to check these guys out more.

APPRECIATE the post, brother! smile

Re: Any Phillip Sayce fans?

An advanced search finds many threads about Philip. Killer player and singer and a heck of a nice guy as well. Here is one with some vid links. https://forum.jbonamassa.com/viewtopic. … 655#p40655 I and friends went up to LA last year and caught him at Molly Malones pub, one of his haunts when he is home. Well worth the effort to go see him if he tours near. BTW, he is LOUD!

Phillip is awesome live and quite simply melts ya face.

Re: Any Phillip Sayce fans?

And he'll melt ya ears as well. Don't forget your earplugs.

Re: Any Phillip Sayce fans?

There are several threads running on the forum about Philip. Here are some more.

Philip Sayce Fans Here?

Philip Sayce

and here's a thread I posted three years ago with a video of Philip and Joe playing together that some of you may not have seen before.

Re: Any Phillip Sayce fans?

Thanks for the extra info guys!  I did a quick browse back through a couple of pages on this section to see if Sayce was mentioned, but didn't see anything.  I should have searched first... smile

Wooders - I jumped onto that link you mentioned about Phil and Joe playing together, but that youtube account has since been closed! sad  If you've got other (active) links I would love to check out that gig!

I don't think Philip has ever (or will ever) tour Oz.  If he does, I know I will definitely be going to one of his shows (with earplugs - thanks for the tip!) smile

Great musician. I am the manager of a young blues rock band from the UK called The Mentulls and they play a medley in their set...here is a you tube video from a recent gig...

Re: Any Phillip Sayce fans?

Yeah! I only have the one album (Steamroller) cos they're hard to come across in Aus. I like though... Except that song where he's singing about not f***ing with a bull. That drives me insane cos it just sounds nasty. Haha.

But I love songs like Stung by a Woman and Steamroller and Black Train. big_smile

If you can find Peace Machine I would say pick it up.A bit more bluesy and some great guitar jams on that album.Really everything I have heard kills it.

ha ha, this is great.

Well I wouldn't have recognized Philip if it wasn't for his singing. Can I have a lock of his hair, since he's not using it anymore?
