Yes Rick your Aztecs will be a top west coast team  and the UCLA game will be a big one.  I think we play the Bruins too.  Our big game early will be against North Carolina at home.  We have Cody Zeller back and every other starter from last year.  We also have a top five recruiting class that will give the team a lot of depth.  Getting excited.

We seem to have some contenders on the forum. The sellout here of the season tickets is the
first in school history and a testimony to Coach Fisher's hard work. The opening game against the Bruins will set the table for a good look at what we have, and may expect as the season progresses. The USA Today poll has the Aztecs making the elite 8! A bit excited here too, but I will take that with a large grain of salt. hmm Good luck to all.
edit: Just checked the schedule and the 11/9 opener is Syracuse. yikes

Check your TV schedules. The Battle of the Midway has been put off until Sunday to let the weather clear. Aztecs and Orange will do battle on the carrier's deck after all.

Game time 1 PM Pacific if you want to watch a good game instead of a yawner NFL one. They decided this game was about the Midway venue and the Service Charity it supports. Weather is predicted wet and windy through mid Saturday.

I have doubts this will be a good game.

My understanding is there are 2 other shipboard promotional games.

I noticed San Diego State head coach refused to move the game indoors...what a crock.  More people able to attend, more Friday viewers, more dough to raise...of curse the Aztecs would get their clocks cleaned indoors.  It is back to they will very likely win at home at what I consider a ridiculous venue and another San Diego P.T. Barnum setup... Double roll eyes worthy roll roll

According to the morning paper, the decision was made by Fox Sports San Diego's VP/GM. They had underwritten the finances that made the game possible and wanted the venue on the Midway befitting the event's advertising while hitting the East Coast market right after the football game. SDSU had to reschedule the home opener Sunday and Syracuse had to change the flights for it to happen. They also would have needed to move the hardwood court from the Midway to the arena and sell 4K more tickets. It's a made for TV event and they paid the bills.  It all worked out.

Me too Curby. A possible best in the west vs best in the east match up to set the table for lots of great bb down the line. Big time ranked teams in a fantasy venue and a good charity. What's not to like? Of course I'll be rooting for the home team, though on a neutral court, but I'm really looking forward to seeing some great early season college ball and a look at players that we will probably be seeing again in March. Games like this are a fan's dream. (and I still get to see Michael Schenker that night!)

Re: 2012/13 College Basketball Season

Was thinking about creating a new thread a new thread about the NCAA, but thought it better to just drop this pile of sh#t here.

Yesterday the NCAA levied game suspensions and fines against two freshmen IU basketball players.  I'll include an article I read that explains things better than I can.  A long time ago Bob Knight made the statement that the NCAA was so mad at Kentucky that they put Cleveland State on probation.  Four years ago they stopped just short of the death penalty against IU for the coach making excessive texts.  Four years later that rule doesn't exist yet they very nearly buried a storied program for such an infraction.

Sports commentators across America are seething in disgust with this latest ruling and the time has come to find a replacement.  I hope some of you read the story.  It'll enlighten you.  A nine game suspension and a $1,500 fine.....not a typo!  The NFL, er NCAA, fined two college basketball players.  Gotta end this or George or Jim will delete it for the forthcoming profanity.

Getting ready to head to Cincinnati for the show tonight and will record UK's season opener against Maryland tonight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn! Watched the Blue/White scrimmage and 2 exhibition games, we're good but still learning. Nerlens is great but I'm really liking Cauley-Stein.  Been crazy busy and haven't had much time to get to the forum. I have a 5 day weekend hoping to get some time to catch up here! GO CATS!!!!

I saw where coach Cal took the time and effort to have a telethon, with the players taking calls for donations, to take to the state of Maryland to help with relief efforts for hurricane Sandy. They raised nearly a million dollars and guessing he will present the check before the game. In spite of the grief and criticism he has taken I'm wowed by this effort. He just went up a few notches in my book. However, still a Bama fan. lol We play tonight vs a no-name, but wait til you see Devonta Pollard. By the time we get to the game with KY he could be killing it. just a projection.

Yeah, Cal's added a new feather in his cap and this year's team is going to surprise some people.  This team won't be as talented as his first three, but I like this team's depth and chemistry potential.  The Louisville game will be an interesting battle and I feel Calipari will be up to the task.  Game of the year until we get payback in the NCAAs.

A perfect crystal day with a cloudless sky, temps in the 60's and the beautiful panorama of the bay and city in the background as the Battle of the Midway salutes the military in the open air on the grey lady's flight deck. Enjoy folks. Bit of a breeze today may be tough.

edit. Man that wind is a real shooting challenge, much less the Orange D. Lets see if the Orange have as much trouble in half 2 shooting into it.
Coach Fisher should have had them shooting ft's outside in the gale yesterday. Can't come out ice cold for a half and win. Good game by Syracuse to foul on most penetrations when the wind took the ft game away. Aztecs are an outside shooting team and that wasn't happening. Orange length inside was dominant. They'll be a force in the east again.

Yes, the telethon was a big success, I may have this wrong but I think the telethon raised $500K and Papa John's commited $1.00 for every pizza sold that day I think is what put it up to a million. And you can give him another feather in his cap, he had a guest Assistant Coach on the bench for the UK Transylvania game, George Goodwin, Father of Lane Goodwin, the brave young man that just lost his battle with cancer.

We had a tight one up in Brooklyn, although from what I understand we lost a decent lead. When we came out of Joe's show at the Taft, they had the game on in the lobby. Since we were hoping to catch Joe and the guys at the buses after the show we watched the game until they kicked us out. There were about 2 1/2 minutes left and the lead was back & forth when walked to the buses. Once home we did not watch the entire game I had recorded just those last 2 minutes we missed. Harrow, out sick and our Junior walk on was the hero, doesn't get any better than that cool

Next up Duke, Tuesday night, I hate to lose to Duke more than any other team out there. I hope these young guys can pull it off this early in the season should be a great game to watch. And before that you can catch our 6th ranked Lady Cats go up against #1 Baylor Tuesday also. Highest preseason ranking ever for the Lady Cats. It's going to be a big night for basketball in the Big Blue Nation for sure!

This will be of interest to Angela, hope you see this. The 1st game of our preseason exhibition games was against Northwood. Their Head Coach is Rollie Massimino, he was honored before the game and in an interview at halftime said this was his 1st time back in Rupp Arena since the 1985 National Championship.

Yes Shred, that's Cody's nickname, and I think it's cool too.  The Zellers are from Washington, Indiana, which is about forty miles away.  Their high school gym was included in the film, Hoosiers.  Four and a half years ago I saw Cody and his older brother Tyler play in a Regional game when he was a freshman. They easily beat top ranked Evansville Memorial.  Tyler had thirty plus points and over twenty rebounds.  The 6'4" little brother had 0 points in spotty action.  All three Zeller brothers were Mr. Basketballs in our state and all were National Honor Society members.
There's been a lot published that Cody will go pro after this season and be the number one pick in the NBA draft, but I can't shake the feeling that he'll get his degree before he leaves.  He's due to graduate in spring of '14.
His staying might cause a problem as we've got six recruits for next season with only four graduating players.  I trust our coach knows what he's doing.  We got commits in the past two weeks from two five star players once thought going to Kentucky and North Carolina.
Btw, despite our monster class, it pales next to the one coming to Kentucky next year.  Saw the Cats play friday night and they struggled against Maryland.  We'll find out how good a coach Calipari is with this bunch or will he take that Lakers opening?  Can't believe Brown was axed after four games.

Just a dumb venue in my opinion.  I read Coach Boeheim's lips when he and Coach Fisher exchanged pleasantries.  His words were "The winds were terrible."  Boeheim would definitely rather have Aztecs that can shoot jumpers fairly and squarely without outdoor baseball and football (both kinds) type adjustments to an indoor game...just a dumb venue in a meaningless game for both teams in reality.  Oh well, if SDSU program directors are content, no sense in complaining but I would've moved it indoors and invited more and put much public Veteran's Day hoopla entertainment into and aside to augment the program.  San Diego really needs to stop so damn much city tourist promotion-they come all the time, so why worry? It's a good place to blow money like Vegas but actually remember what the hell it all went for...fondly.  It is the opposite of Vegas, what happens in San Diego gets spread worldwide (and often exaggerated like a phony teenage sexual experience tongue). But sometimes the needle should be lifted off the broken record.

Ho hum.   But it WAS fun to see KFMB-TV local channel 8 weekend sports reporter John Howard (SDSU graduate) lose his bet with weeknight sports reporter Kyle Kraska (Syracuse, [best school for sportscasters btw wink] grad), and had to wear both Kyle's SU scarf and SU ball cap for his news report!  More than a week of ball bustling bustin' will come out of THAT....still, ho hum beyond a short-lived laff...
