Topic: Frozen Bananas

Im starting this topic just because I'm really a sentimental fool.
If you know of someone who needs help, please do what you can even if it's just a few words of encouragement.

I'll let other forum members take this topic to where ever it needs to go.

Re: Frozen Bananas

As Cathy can testify, I am a major banana fan. I eat one every day. I also love dark chocolate! cool

Until reading about it in the other topic, I had never heard of frozen bananas, nor as I told Cathy when we spoke last night, had I ever seen such a thing! She got up, went to her freezer, and came back with a box of dark chocolate covered frozen bananas. She then took one out, bit into it, and showed me a close-up of the banana. I was both gobsmacked and outraged - gobsmacked because I badly wanted one too, and outraged that she had never told me about this wondrous creation before or offered me such a treat on any of my visits!

Frozen chocolate covered bananas do not exist in Europe. sad I will have to make my own.

Carry on. wink

Re: Frozen Bananas

Frozen bananas were a treat for us as kids! They used to sell them at the county fair. I think that's where we got the idea to make them at home. I remember peppermint ice cream at Howard Johnson's was a favorite of my dad's. Mine too! Another was caramel corn or cheese corn from a tiny little shop in downtown Watertown NY. Now when I'm able to get south to visit my son, my favorite is deep fried peanuts. I skip the boiled ones. Deep fried is where it's at man!

George, as a preemption to outrage, all you had to do when visiting was ask Cathy playfully if she had any ice, and would she mind if you got some!  She'd of course yell "In the freezer, George"! Then you would go, and your curiousity would have further asked "what in the world are these things"...

George with happy taste buds.....real whirled peace!

Frozen bananas, hmm, I think we discovered them on a trip to Ensenada, Mexico, where kids and Dad had them and Mom got a booze drink on a watermelon.  Finally chilled her out, lol (5 kids on a road trip with a carefree Dad and uptight Mom, in a "foreign" country).

Ahhh yes, the caramel popcorn shop in The Arcade (NOT a game arcade, shopping arcade) in the big (to us country hicks) city of Watertown, New York!  An occasional treat for us, as was hamburgers at the Carrolls restaurant. From the very first JRECK sub "shop" (a school bus outside Camp Drum, NY), it was always (still is to this day when visiting home) a no brainer, no good behavior needed family treat!  2 subs, regluar, or ham and cheese!  Lookout, I'm getting nostalgic!!!

The fried chicken at Carrolls!! Jrecks!! Yeah Baby!!! And always a stop for Spaziani's Pizza on Fridays!!! We got dad to get two. He'd eat one on his way home, every time!!

edit: I'm either jonesing for the food of my youth or I'm remembering a simpler time that seems like a lifetime ago.

I have visited Cathy's freezer many times in the past, and I can swear on a stack of bibles that there were no frozen bananas to be seen. She has sent me this recipe, which I shall probably attempt tomorrow, as a small token of contrition for withholding this delicacy from me in the past. tongue

Yeah, no kidding! Banannas and chocolate? Before you know it, they'll be adding ice cream, strawberries and pineapple between bananna halves too!

Re: Frozen Bananas

Frozen grapes are awesome.  They keep a long time, make great ice cubes, and are wonderful additions to lots of stuff.

Something I don't think anyone has commented on, and a word of potential warning to the uninitiated....

Frozen banana and coating have been known to part company in sudden and chaotic fashion.  Same for banana and stick.  At least I can remember my dad cursing a blue streak (in the Magic Kingdom, of all places) when it happened to him on occasion.

Kind of like taking that first savoring slurp from an ice cream cone and watching the scoop plummet to the ground.

Forewarned is forearmed.

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.
