BRAVO Wiggins!!! Well done!! And Froome proved his worth. Sorry Taylor didn't get a medal, esp. for his father. And I felt bad for Fabio. He was in so much pain. sad  Also three cheers to Kristin Armstrong for her gold for the USA!! She came out of retirement at 38, for this!!
Yesterday was a great day for Maryland swimmers!! Michael Phelps and his "student",  A Schmitt, for their golds smile   Cathy

I forgot to mention my pleasure at seeing teams DQ'd in Badmiton for trying to throw their matches!!

Re: London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics

Oh boy, that team sprint cycling race last night was a-mazing.  Congratulations to gold medal winners Chris Hoy, Jason Kenny and particularly to the young Philip Hindes who delivered a blistering first lap for the team.  How they can sustain that level of pace is remarkable, but looking at the size of the quads on these cyclists you can see where all the power comes from.

What I love about the Olympics is that you end up watching sports you wouldn't normally do.  I'm really enjoying basketball and can even bear to watch the boxing.  Track and field starts today in the Olympic Stadium.  I'm hooked.

Re: London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics

I am enjoying the basketball as well, but the real humiliation was giving Nigeria that many points. It happens when you play zone trying not to run up the score. Coach K handle it nicely.

Re: London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics

I particularly enjoy seeing more obscure athletic countries gaining success out of nowhere. Yesterday's RSA win in rowing was a total surprise but the real shocker was Mexico's lady archers taking Silver and Bronze in individual competition which has been dominated by Asian nations for years. The gold-silver came down to a sudden death shootout one arrow at a time in difficult gusty conditions.

We are extremely proud of Gabby Douglas here in Iowa. We consider her one of our own.
Chow's gym that she trains in is approximately 20 mins from me.  I imagine Chow's gym will
be come the training mecca.....Shawn Johnson & Gabby Douglas aka  USA Gold!
I went to see Shawn Johnson when she returned to Iowa after the Olympics and
I imagine if I can, I will go see Gabby come back. Thrilling experience!

Many congratulations to all the participants of the 2012 Olympics! smile

Patty, in the midst of the most ridiculously over-scripted, over-produced, over-biased at many times (=ho hum to me, just report) Olympics since 1984, Gabby Douglas will be THE SHINING STAR remembered forever.  What a truly lovely, very remarkable girl!!!  I hope, make that am sure, that Des Moines can celebrate her with great pride.  The local level deserves that the most.  And it is not a matter of nationalism as much a matter of the heart.  If anyone can look at Gabby the total person and not believe in SOMETHING GOOD, something is wrong...with...them.

Rock ON & Keep the Faith,
Rocket

ps-more unscripted greatness in the camaraderie between almost all athletes is NOT TO BE OVERLOOKED! Best ever, and a blessing to finally see.  Maybe all that "it's not whether you win or lose..." stuff IS important!?  True hardcore competition and top level sportsmanship...life is good.

pps-the crowds are superstars (which trumps all the hype wink ) also! big_smile

Re: London 2012 Olympics & Paralympics

A great game of Tennis yesterday ....

Source: BBC Sport

Andy Murray beats world number two Novak Djokovic to reach the Olympic tennis final.
The Brit was in fine form as he knocked out the Serbian in straight sets, 7-5 7-5 in front of a partisan Wimbledon crowd.
It means Murray will be back on Centre Court to play his second final in four weeks against Roger Federer following the Briton's Wimbledon final defeat, but this time it will be for the Olympic gold medal.

---

I think Andy might have the edge this time ..... here's hoping!

Hi Patty, i heard from a mutual friend here - Pete was giving London a miss while the Olympics were on.  It's being reported, London is looking like a ghost town at the moment - due in part, being told of a possible transport melt down - shouldn't have worried - The transport network is coping well.

I can vouch for that, - it is fine, -we came out of Wembley along with over 70,000 others this week and came across London on tube and it was fine, - actually a very friendly party atmosphere on the tubes with people talking about the different events that they had been at.

My family has been really enjoying the olympics and we were so inspired after watching the US gymnastics that we all went out in the backyard and tried to do handstands and cartwheels! Thankfully the neighbors weren't watching, and of course the next day we all woke up with sore muscles smile.  I guess we need to get in better shape.
