Topic: Favorite Bob Dylan cover (other than Hendrix AATWT)
The best songwriter thread had me thinking about Bob Dylan, who's own recordings are among my least favorites. Even I will acknowledge that his lyrics are at the top of the genre. So who did the best job of taking one of his songs and making it listenable?? I exclude Hendrix' "Watchtower" because that may make the thread too repetitive. I also said "favorite", not "best", since "best" can mean so many different things.
Here's my favorite, "Watching the River Flow" by Seatrain. For the young'ns Seatrain was an offshoot from the original Blues Project, with flutist (or flautist if you prefer) Andy Kulberg ("Flute Thing" will sound familiar to most), and Richard Greene (violin, "Orange Blossom Special"). In this incarnation the singer is Lloyd Baskin (not much elsewhere that I can find other than a possibly mistaken reference to role in "A Beautiful Mind"), and the band live was a really fun, party kind of group, a little rockier/less jazzy or less folky than some other Seatrain lineups. ("North Coast" from the same album and I assume on the same link is also worth a listen.)
