Not to everyone's taste, but a very underrated and clever band. I bought all their records back in the day

Sparks    Barbican Centre, Friday 26th October

No matter how far you try to push the envelope, it remains stationery

Hi Relayer,

Yes, I saw Sparks on the Barbican website but thought "nah". Sorry, I'm showing my prejudices. hmm

Main gig guide has been further updated.

Is that the one with "Hitler on the piano" (John Winston Lennon)?

Lennon referred to him like that (in a typically humourous way) in a '75 interview. He tried to introduce Julian (who lived in England) to the Sparks and Julian his dad to Queen (of whom John never heard of before). Funny.
Obviously those were the days before Internet and youtube.

Hi Wooders,

I see your point, it would look a bit strange to see them in between Wilko Johnson and Alice Cooper  smile

Just out of interest, being that Joe is playing 4 London shows next year. Back in 2008 Sparks played 21 shows over 21 nights at  Islington Academy. They played each of their 21 albums in full.

In the days I had vinyl all over the place it wasn't unknown for me to have Sparks between Wilko (or Dr Feelgood back then) and Alice.

Nothing like a bit variety.....

Impressive feat, 21 nights!  Seeing as an album is roughly 50 mins long, it wasn't the length of the gig!

That is seriously impressive. R&R have just gone up in my estimation as that's no mean feat.

One of the reasons I'm in awe of Warren Haynes & Gov't Mule is that they have a huge repertoire and also aren't afraid to to mix things up and play material that they haven't recorded themselves. They're top musicians too.

Just how many different songs does Warren Haynes know and can actually play...mind boggling.
