to add a few:

1. Neu Siedler am See... a fabulous lake about 40 mins drive from Vienna in the direction airport (past the airport, of course)

2. Bratislava is not that far neither.

3. Stadtspark - right in the middle of the city - nice place to hang around as well as the place for the best restaurant in Austria.

4. Fleischmarkt - street with a very nice old Greek cathedral - worth seeing. I also live there, so we can drop in for a coffee or glass of wine. smile))

A few tips for people who have never been to Vienna, things I think are 'must sees'.

Schloss Schoenbrunn - the summer palace, epic scale, fantastic gardens at the rear.

Prater - the permanent fun-fair with Harry Lime's Ferris wheel, the Riesenrad (giant wheel)

Hoehenstrasse - a scenic drive up a hill into the Wienerwald (Vienna Woods), culminating on the Leopoldsberg. The roof of the restaurant there offers the most stunning panoramic view of most of the city, and the Danube. The long range weather forecast is sunny and around 30c! big_smile

Cathy arrives tomorrow, Rocket arrives Thursday, and we head off south-east-ish on Friday. Road trip! tongue cool

Just arrived in Vienna: the weather is (and will stay) pretty hot. For Peter and others who want to go by train from the airport: it took about 25 minutes with S7, ticket is 4€ (there is a railway information, ÖBB, in the airport) to Wien Mitte, from there you can go by underground to your destination.

Just been sitting here jamming along to Lie #1 (love that track), the last time I'll see my guitars for a few days. Heading off to London shortly, staying down there to watch the football tonight, then flying to Vienna in the morning. Really looking forward to it and barring any catastrophes, will see you Tuesday lunchtime. For those yet to set out, have a safe journey everyone.

Did somebody say HOT !!!!  Joe brings the heat again ! Quite the ride from Amsterdam, onto Belgium for a great show from Jim Shuler, a quick sleep, then a few road blocks, diverted roads, screeching into Eva,s for a great chill on the porch overlooking beautiful German countryside. Another quick sleep and off to Vienna. What a stunning ride !!! Happy to be here. Looking forward to seeing the city tomorrow, except for the afore mentioned heat!!!  Lol.   Cathy

Arrived tonight from Salzburg.  Trying to avoid looking at posts regarding set lists or videos as we want to be surprised.

Walked 3 blocks from hotel, found a Ferrari showroom, a cheeseburger, and an Irish bartender.  Not too bad.

OMG! This heat is something else!!

So much to tell about our amazing journey to Vienna....but not now...girding for the heat during today's sightseeing, expecting 37C. Will check back tonight if still alive.

Just arrived from Sazburg. Staying in Hotel Capri on Nestroyplatz. Got to have a shower and a beer. HOT Very HOT. can't decide wether to check out the set list or not ???????
