Topic: Anyone Watching 24 Hours of Le Mans?

Also known as 24 Heures du Mans...

Of course I'm hoping Corvette will win.

I love the fact that you can watch several classes of cars in one race and it is not necessarily about speed...it is just as important to actually survive the race!

Someday my old 79' Vette and I hope to be there in person.

As of right now in the GTE Pro Class, Corvette is 1st, Aston Martin 2nd, Ferrari 3rd

21 more hours to go....give or take a minute or 2...;-)

I'm tuned in. Always watch it every year.

Re: Anyone Watching 24 Hours of Le Mans?

I'm pretty hit or miss on racing these past few years.  Just can't find the time. Or perhaps my priorities have shifted for the moment.  The winning Corvette team from last year did an appearance at work a few weeks later and signed posters for us.  That was pretty cool.  Had mine dry mounted and it hangs nicely in the man cave.

Yo Rick!
Did you just see the Toyota go flying after the crash with the Ferrari?
Ferrari upside down and both drivers are alive!

Still early days but you might get your wish. Corvettes leading the GTE Pro and GTE AM classes.

Should be the first victory for a Hybrid this year if it holds up. Audi are racing 2 'normal' diesels and 2 e-trons this year. Talk about covering your bases. However the e-tron is thought to be worth 7/10s over a LeMans lap. 200 ex tra bhp every time it ready for use. be handy if it rains too with the 4WD aspect of it.

AnthonyDavidson is in the hospital but OK apparently. Normally a couple of bad ones every year. Mike Rockefeller had a shocker last year in the Audi. Very dangerous race with the various classes. Always has been. Just watch Steve McQueens 'Le Mans'. The closing speeds of the cars is just phenomenal.

Not been for many a year. Nothing to beat a trek out to the Mulsanne at night and see the lights come up and then they thwat past at an u-n-b-el-i-e-v-a-b-l-e rate of knots. The chicanes slow 'em down these days but even so.......

I hope the Hybrid lasts. Toyota will be back though. They should stick 'til they win it. Then...who needs Peugot?

That was a scary crash! Glad the drivers escaped relatively unscathed. Go Corvette!

Another thing that was scary, was seeing Justin Bell "interview" the drunks lol

Re: Anyone Watching 24 Hours of Le Mans?

3 1/2 hours to go and a tremendous race in GT is going on between the 50 Corvette and 67 Porsche in the Am. class. Pro class GT Corvette running P4. The hybrid Audi's are 1-2 and battling for the overall lead. Honda and Nissan in a tight battle in LMP2. Lots of drama this year.

Re: Anyone Watching 24 Hours of Le Mans?

Well, your Corvettes won 2 of the classes while a Hybrid post its first victory, and a 1-2 to boot.

Good result. Toyota will be back with better preparation and more cars perhaps, probably Peugot as well now that they have seen Audi do it, and bearing in mind they already have the car anyway.

Look forward to reading the full report when it is out. A well done to the Rebellion Lola squad for a fine 4th place. Nice to see the Lola name there considering the firm has just slipped into administration and is likely to fold.

Re: Anyone Watching 24 Hours of Le Mans?

Well in the GTE Pro Class, Corvette was 5th & 6th.
Just happy they survived after gear box problems, replacing the steering rack, rebuilding one Vette completely, one Vette trying to "kiss" an Audi and a crew member forgetting to put a wheel nut back on.
All in a days work at Le Mans...
And lots of debris for souvenirs

I didn't watch any of it but I've got an Uncle that watches every televised second of it!

Re: Anyone Watching 24 Hours of Le Mans?

I wish the Delta Wing had run a bit more. That is the future of sports car racing and it was running very fast. Tough luck getting shunted like that.

They were not banking on it getting anywhere near the finish anyway, but the shunt put paid to it. I think they did pretty well getting near the ACO's target lap time and getting it to run quickly in the race. This version is just a makeover from the failed Indycar delta Wing concept, using a tub from the redundant Aston Martin prototype project I believe.

But if they have convinced enough people through Le Mans to invest in it properly then hopefully a proper Delta Wing will be built. Nissan seem happy with it so lets hope it happens. I could see something like this having its own series. It ticks a lot of 'future' boxes.
