Not surprising about Schleck, he's had a terrible season.

Much as I've been on his case for his lackadaisical, unprofessional approach to 'training' for the Tour, he's missing the race because he chipped his coccyx when he fell in the wet during the Dauphine tt. He's been told to take five weeks complete rest.

As for chapter 327 of the life and times of Lance Armstrong et al, I'll reserve comment, because if there's one thing that I know for sure, it's that nobody (except the direct people concerned) knows for sure what exactly went down, or when, or where.

Even more interesting is what this case will mean for others named who are still directly involved with the sport - Johan Bruyneel is Manager of the Radio Shack Nissan Trek team, one of the doctors named also works for RSNT, while another is the personal trainer of Alberto Contador! Something, somewhere, is likely to hit the fan, though if things go as they often have done in recent cycling history, it could be a couple of years yet.

Meanwhile Peter Sagan today won his fourth Tour de Suisse stage, following his five ToC stages last month. Incredible.

Re: Cycling 2012

Today is the final, Queens' stage of the Tour de Suisse, also known as the Tour de Sagan, since the winner of five ToC stages has won four stages here too. However, Sagan is not a climber, and this stage features two monster mountains, which promise to deliver an epic final stage, since any one of the current top 10, including Levi Leipheimer, could win the stage and the general classification.

Live streams can be accessed at the bottom of this page - http://www.steephill.tv/tour-de-suisse/#live - from 15:45 CET, 9:45 eastern, 6:45 pacific (this info particularly for my SoCal insomniac friend wink )

Thanks for the heads up George. I love me some steep mountain finishes. Let the sprinters grab points in the flatlands, but the real cyclists prove their mettle in the heights. I'll be up early anyway watching LeMans.

BBC - Tour de France - "British riders Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome occupy the top two places in the Tour de France after an excellent day for Team Sky on stage 11."

Good to see our boys on top of the leader board - Just hope their 'clean'

This must be making the French spit, more than usual.

It's been a great performance by Team Sky so far. I'd like to see what Froome could do in the mountains if he was let off the leash, he's looked incredibly strong so far. Obviously it's not going to happen with Wiggins being team leader.

Good to see David Millar winning yesterday too.

Re: Cycling 2012

Cycling fan here and good to see the Sky team doing so well. This might be a changing of the guard. We'll see in the mountains.

Re: Cycling 2012

Overall race standing after stage 1 4 : And after some 'sabotage' of the course... people had thrown tacks onto the road, resulting in many riders picking up punctures. Wiggins to his credit slowed the pace down, so the others could catch up.

1. Bradley Wiggins (GB) Team Sky 64hrs, 41mins, 16secs
2. Chris Froome (GB) Team Sky @ 2'05"
3. Vincenzo Nibali (Ita) Liquigas @ 2'23
4. Cadel Evans (Aus) BMC Raing @ 3'19"
5. Jurgen van den Broeck (Bel) Lotto @ 4'48"

an awful out of politics surrounding the Froome/Wiggins/Sky relationship which I think is being put around to upset Wiggens in the hope of another rider picking up the pieces, - think it was the Italian press (Nibali interest) that published an interview, - which then l'equipe picked up and re-wrote with their own edge on it...

A couple of things to remember: This Sky team was put together by Sean Yates for one reason: For Wiggins to win le Tour, - not Froome. Froome was NOT an automatic inclusion for Le Tour team until quite late on because he was sick with a virus infection at the start of the year and then had an accident on his return to training. Therefore his inclusion was only ever as a domestic.  The team manager Sean Yates spent YEARS as a domestic and probably was one of the best ever so he knows the value and need for such riders. - If Wiggins does wear yellow into Paris then Froome should be praised to the highest level because of what he has done, not only with this race but also Cav's world championship. Perhaps this year he is strong enough to take yellow and hold it but it is not the first and will not be the last rider to play the team role and sacrifice his chance.

It does appear that Le Tour establishment have a problem with perceived outsiders stepping into their territory and winning the thing, - Lemond, Armstrong.......?

I totally understand and agree with what you've said Ian, I'm 100% behind Wiggins. I was just saying that based on Froomes performances in the mountains so far it would be interesting to see what he could do if he were the team leader.

Re: Cycling 2012

sorry Murray1903 my post was specifically aimed at you, - certainly was not having a go, - I did not make it clear but I was more answering the negativity that appears to be building up around Wiggins right now, - including his bad language reply when asked about drug taking. As I am sure you and others know Wiggins has been around for quite a while now, just under the radar perhaps, but when you look at his record now you can see why a tour team has been built around him, and as I think he has said himself he has sacrificed a lot of family life for this opportunity.

No problem Ian, I didn't think you were having a go and that you were speaking in general regarding Wiggins.

It's going to be a very interesting stage tomorrow, two HC and two first category climbs. Time is running out for Nibali and Evans etc so there's sure to be some attacks in the next two days. Fingers crossed that Team Sky can keep them undr control.

Re: Cycling 2012

Sorry, but I'm not joining in the Sky/Wiggins love fest, though I absolutely understand that Brits are thrilled at the prospect of a first Tour winner, and rightly so.

The dominance of Sky is reminiscent of US Postal days, and most fans that I know simply dislike any one team being SO dominant, because of the inevitable questions that arise....

All of my personal favorite riders are either absent, have failed, have quit, or both. As far as I'm concerned, this Tour was decided at the first TT - barring any unforeseen disasters, Wiggins will win easily. My only remaining interest is the White jersey - I hope that Teejay will be able to keep it.

Re: Cycling 2012

Well, much as I resent the money of Sky bringing it about, that win for Wiggins was fantastic.

30 years I've been following the tour and I never thought I'd see a Brit win it. To get the 1-2 is beyond words, and as for Cav, what a guy.

If British cyclists now win it for the next 30 years I'll put up with it. I don't think Dave Brailsford would countenance any devious ways to get a win.

Re: Cycling 2012

Congrats to Brad, Chris & the Cav ... what a brilliant day for Great Britain, & British Cycling! - a fantastic achievement - lets now go and get some GB Golds.

Re: Cycling 2012

Got to disagree with George. I thought this year's race was incredibly entertaining. I openly admit to loving English speaking winners smile Wiggins has been riding well all season and deserved the win. Froome did what he was hired to do. He's a star of the future now that he's improved his TT's. Sagan, Pinot, and, of course, TJ, are the next generation of heroes. Speaking of heroes, I got a little weepy when George Hincape was sent to the front in Paris. What a consistent team player. MUCH respect.
I'm always depressed when it's over. I will get ALL of the road race this Saturday, so that will help with the withdrawal. We were in Liege on the day of the race, but we couldn't hang around for hours. I did get an official tour car to sound their horn. That's my closest Tour experience so far. lol  Cathy
