Re: Paul Rodgers

Free considered reuniting for the London Olympic Games this summer, Paul Rodgers has confirmed.

If they’d regrouped for the opening ceremony it would have been the first time he, drummer Simon Kirke and bassist Andy Fraser shared a stage since 1972.

But the singer doesn’t believe it will take place because of difficulties replacing guitarist Paul Kossoff, who died in 1976.

In the next edition of Classic Rock, due out on May 23, Rodgers says: “There was talk of possibly something connected with the Olympics, but I don’t see it coming together now.

“One of the things that is difficult in my mind is that Paul was the soul of the band in many respects, and I hesitate to mess with that.

“If I was going to even think about it, it would mean getting someone who had a really great feel for that particular way in which Paul Kossoff played. The person I think comes closest is Peter Bullick from Debbie Bonham’s band.

“But as I said, there are no actual plans just now.”

Got my ticket for 31st May a while ago, looking forward to it again

Two words. Joe Bonamassa.

Just found this: http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/news … -hologram/

This hologram thing has the potential to get out of hand. People are dead, don't try to bring them back.

But I also agree with your choice of guitarist. One off holograms not too bad, more than that no way.

Re: Paul Rodgers

I know people will have different opinions as to who might fill Koss' shoes but for me it would have to be John Buckton of tribute band Freeway. I have seen them many times, close your eyes and you think that Koss has came to life, complete with the stance beside the Marshall stack.

Re: Paul Rodgers

Try this one Phil. John sometimes plays Koss' LP, the one used by Joe in Newcastle on 2 occasions.

Yes, he definitely could be up for consideration.

It would be nice if they got together for just 1 more time at a Special Event in England.

Free for me is 4 of my top musicians of all-time playing together in 1 band and the whole was greater than the parts.  With what happened and them being so young at the time, I think it is difficult for them to decide how to get back together.  They all felt a deep loss with Koss.

I think it would be just nice if the 3 could just get together and rehearse.  And see how it goes from there.

I just have to put this, because Koss playing is so beautiful, it just makes me cry.  So much depth, so much soul, a touch I can still feel today.

Re: Paul Rodgers

Now Fraser says of Free’s invitation: “I always figured we would re-marry our ex-wives before getting back together. But the event was such that I felt I should put aside my personal demons.

“We considered many guitarists. I suggested Mark Knopfler, Ron Wood, Dave Gilmour. I was looking into a Kossoff hologram by the Tupac people, so we would actually be playing with his track.

“The million-dollar price tag didn’t go down too well with others – or suggestions about guitarists.”

I believe Jimmy Page was asked but turned them down.

Re: Paul Rodgers

THANK YOU!         THANK YOU!            THANK YOU!

This is one of the better Paul Rodgers interviews that I have seen and I think he should do more like this cool

He seemed so relaxed and I am very happy how well he looks.  The interviewer did a great job with the questions.  I think every musician should see this interview.  He has a lot of wisdom to share.

"Shooting Star" has a lot of deep meaning for me and I am glad he was able to go further into it.

When he sang "Good Golly, Miss Molly" I just about fell off my chair. That is how I want him to sound when Free gets back together.  He's still got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  All Right Now!

I loved the story about Peter Grant and Simon.  I would love to hear Simon's take on that. Ha Ha!

Also I thought Paul's answer to the last question the interviewer asked, at 44:10, was so beautifully worded that he could put that wonderful answer into a Song.  "To Live on the Planet as if it is a Living Being".

Re: Paul Rodgers

Thanks for posting Roger - what a set!!!

In all the times I have seen him I have never heard him sing Remember or Oh I Wept. Will definitely need to go his next one down there if there is one.

Re: Paul Rodgers

I see Bad Comoany is going on tour this summer and have a live Blue Ray from 2010 out. Seems like much like the original lineup
