I'm pleased for Harry and Spurs that he didn't get offered the job. The headlines Brack offered up upon the press getting the news is absolutely typical.
Fact is, the job is a poisoned chalice. I think Hodgson is as good as anyone for the job. Better qualified than others that have held the post.
Our national press is a disgrace and the sports journalists that are involved in some of the reporting are men of little character or integrity.
Judging the man before he has even donned the tracksuit is disrespectful in the extreme.
Hodgson can do no worse than whats gone before. He may do better. He speaks the language, is rational and honest and a good football man to boot.
Despite what the press might say, I don't really believe 'England expects' anymore. All but the truly blind know that we are at best second rate on the international front. Capable of giving a good game on a good day, but mainly we are Shire horses running with thoroughbreds a lot of the time.
The most important appointment for England should be the guy who is responsible for the youth development centre. If Hodgson could be allowed to manage that and lay a proper foundation for the future then in 15 years we might have the same optimism the Germans have over their national team now. There is almost a constant production line of talent coming through, despite the large numbers of foreign players that play in the Bundesliga.
I'm happy to see an Englishman in the role. Roy Hodgson has my best wishes for an impossible job, made so by the media.
I wish him well and Harry too, ' cos I think he has had an enormously lucky escape.
