Topic: Gary Clark, Jr. ~ I would love to see him sit in with Joe ~ would you?

Gary Clark, Jr. is in Southern California, specifically, at Coachella, the very large annual music festival which taking place just outside of Palm Springs.  He played today.  He was fabulous.  I am a big, big fan.  I also think he is a really nice, humble and very cool guy.  This year, the festival has been doubled in duration.  Instead of taking place over a three day weekend, it is happening over TWO three day weekends in a row.  The same lineup will be happening both weekends.............. sooooooooooooooo.... I was thinkin'..... maybe Gary doesn't have any plans on the days between shows.... and.......gosh....

Wouldn't it be great if somehow Joe were to have Gary sit in with him for a song or two at the show in Beverly Hills this week??? Well, I think so.  I have no idea what Gary's schedule is like, or if Joe might consider such a thing.  I can only presume that they are fans of one another, and I know that stranger things have happened.  Mr. Clapton did invite both Joe and Gary to play at the last Crossroads Festival.  Perhaps they've already met.... I do not know.

Would anyone else like to see something like this?  Chime in, please.  It's just an idea.... and one I thought was worth tossing out there.

No matter what happens, I am going to have a wonderful, wonderful time at the show on Tuesday.  It's been far too long since I have seen the entire band together - nearly a year, I think!!!  Heavens, how can that be?  Oh, they have been missed!

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Thanks to Libby's post on Facebook, I caught the rerun of the live stream of Gary's set on You Tube. I enjoyed it a lot. Here's a clip of Gary playing at the Crossroads festival.

Great suggestion, Libby. Wish I could be there with you......a Joe show in Beverley Hills....sounds heavenly!

I'll second the pairing.  My only problem with Gary is his lack of produced material.  No question the guy's enormously talented.  A better coupling for Joe imho is that dynamo singer in Alabama Shakes - that would be awesome!

We discovered Gary watching the Crossroads DVD & bought the EP as soon as came out. Really great & wish he had a full length cd. I thought I had read he was to release one?

So it's Lizzee now, huh?  That avatar is not big enough!  If Gary has some new material coming I'll be first in line.  Still think Brittany Howard is option number 1 for Joe Bonamassa.  I was looking at some videos of Alabama Shakes a while ago and the only thing missing is some fret fireworks.  JB would fit seamlessly with that voice.

I honestly don't know Gary...  I think he a good singer and that stop light song is cool...  Anybody is always welcome to set in...  But if he's playing Coachella why would he want to sit in with little ole Joe Bonamassa... LOL!!
Congrats he deserves all the success he deserves

So many artists, so many scheduling conflicts. Maybe someday.

Hi Curby, it seems Gary has 4 self releases:

2004 - 110

2005 - Gary Clark Jr with J-Moeller & James Bullard - Tribute

2008 - Worry No More - Hotwire Unlimited

2010 - Gary Clark Jr. EP - Hotwire Unlimited

before The Bright Lights EP from 2011. I've never heard them though. Has anyone?

Great to hear from you Duncan.  I'd like to see more visits from you.
As for Gary I have an earlier full album of his which is quite different from the Bright Lights EP - more souful and very, very good.  GCJr would definitely be a worthy duet partner for little ole Joe Bonamassa.

I should have known that you would be gracious and kind enough to reply, Joe.  I just now saw this.  I'm not sure if Gary is still in our neck of the woods, but, if I can make things happen on his end, I shall let you know.  I am looking SO forward to seeing you tomorrow.  Love, Libby  x

Can I sit in?

Gary Clark seems to be getting quite a bit of press. He is playing Coachella. I have seen him on MTV sponsored things  and his song is being used for the NFL Draft next week.

Re: Gary Clark, Jr. ~ I would love to see him sit in with Joe ~ would you?

He is playing Londons Hyde Park on 14 July, same day as Fogerty & Springsteen. I will be there to see him.

Two Greats together make 'er Greater!  Would really dig seeing them together...what to play?, what to play?, what to play?! though...wide open.

I could even add more spice in two the gumbo, with another addition, Sonny Landreth ...Crossroads 2013???!!! (...speaking of that, ran into Danny! the other day at the train station on the way to work, Libby, he says Hi to y'alls!)

Too bad it didn't happen yet Libby.  sad  We'll try again...
