Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

I saw this the other day. How awesome would that be?

I dream of owning a 59' Custom Shop lol.

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

well you would be surprised.  I saw a pair of original 59 PAF's for sale for 10K and they still charged 150 bucks for shipping.  really?

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

Hmm... It's been modified, refinished and had a cracked headstock.

I'm sure it is a fantastic guitar and all, but IMO $250K is what you might ask for a mint condition, all original '59 whereas it sounds like this one has been through a lot of changes in it's time.  No doubting the street cred this guitar has though, being played by J. Geils for 45+ years...

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

Not a prayer of seeing $250k for that one.

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

Your forgetting though this guitar has a history that is VERY well documented.  J.Geils Band toured with everybody back in the day.  Wouldn't you like to own a guitar that has been played toe to toe with Duane Allman and Dickey Betts in the Allman Brothers Band???  How about muddy Waters???  This guitar is a piece of history not just a great sounding guitar, but an angle in a centerfold!!!! Oh wait...  Don't listen to 80's J. Geils Band go deeper please!

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

It really doesn't matter "who touched" or owned the guitar really. I don't think who touched it, or who it was played in front of should affect the value of the guitar. What does is how many were made that year, and its condition. Was this a 1959 goldtop that was refinished as sunburst? A popular thing to do indeed.

And there's really no proof that "all" of those players owned it.

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

Nobody said they owned it.  It was played on stage by Jay Geils, which I know a few people would say so what.  But Jay Geils back in the day was every bit of the player all these southern rock bands had.  Check out Live Full house and tell me you don't think thats some good old blues dirty rock.  Magic Dick on the harmaonica!

LOL They censored the poor guys name!

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

At the end of the day, its still 250k for a frickin guitar..

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

Never spent more then $2000 on a guitar and had second thoughts about that one.

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

Wow....super tight flame on that one....very distinct...make him a bid JB!

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

If you got it......you can buy them.......they don't lose value.......:)

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

yeah the guitar vintage market is made up of both real "supply and demand" rules but other esoteric facts as well, one being the "who owned it factor" which may add a few thousands of dollars for someone like J. Geils, to quite a hefty chunk of dough, say if Clapton still had and was selling his Beano.  I think the price for this is a bit high, but with the economy recovering and the markets stabilizing it may fetch that much.  Let us not forget that in the 90's these were going for about 400K.  That said the refin an the neck repait do lessen the value, but may be "overruled" by the low supply of 59's.  All in all a beautiful guitar for certain.

I spent $2000 on a guitar, and was also my max. Although I'd be willing to spend up to $4,000 for a very nice and vintage guitar.
Not sure what I'd pay, but I really want a vintage Trini Lopez Gibson. cool

I already have three LesPauls, so I'd have to get rid of all three if I had a 59. And I'm not sure I'd want to get rid of my '72!

I think the originality is more important than the previous artist ownership....Yeah you're right the ecomony has caused vintage gear to go down in value.
If the economy ever comes back then the value of these gems will sky rocket once again...our dollar in the bank is not worth a dime !!!

Re: Hey JB, here is another 59 Burst for sale!

I agree,  the price is a bit steep...  Cool guitar but I d like a magnifying glass and a good look at that pickguard and M-69 rings.
Im tapped out anyway...  The issue with a celebrity burst is the what does an artist name add to the value?  Because I am looking at a 45 to 60 thousand dollar guitar face value.  I am a huge fan of J Geils and Peter Wolf so don't take that as Im slagging them off.  It really boils down to how much you like that particular artist.  Plus, I have to resume my paper route when I get home so I can keep making the payments on the 3 that I have... LOL

PS   I thought J-- was a flying V guy??  Anywho I hear theres some slightly used Hohner special 20's used by Magic D$&k on EBAY for 249k less... LOL
