Anyone but a Chelsea fan is possibly imbued with mischievous glee this morning at the latest managerial shenanigans at Stamford Bridge.
Fair to say we are no longer shocked at the comings and goings in modern football. Even so AVB’s sacking after just 8 months in charge is testimony to the idiots running football clubs these days.
Was he the wrong man for the job? His lack of top level experience counting against him? Maybe, but I don’t think so. There is war of words going on in the media just now, but certain reports I have read state that when Abramo-rich courted him for the job it was on the basis of rebuilding the team over time and setting the processes and players in place that would take the club forward over the next 3-5 years.
AVB obviously believed Roman’s spiel but failed to grasp that that meant winning the championship, or something, and as a minimum qualifying for the Champions League at the same time. Once again the owners long term aims are compromised by their short term ambitions.
So, wrong man for the job? No, wrong club for the man in my view. AVB, when I saw him was erudite, knowledgeable, well spoken with good English and generally open and fair in his assessments. What seems to be clear is his management style has been undermined some of the playing staff at Bridge. Those with personal agendas related to their own futures.
My best wishes to AVB. Hopefully he will find a new club that matches his own potential.
So what now for Abramo-rich? Well as he has effectively allowed the players to successfully undermine another top coach he may as well ask them who they WOULD be willing to play for – and woe betide them if they fail to step up to the plate.
I suspect Capello must be the best candidate then if it comes down to massaging player ego’s, especially if Lamps, Terry and Cole are involved.
I’d love to see David Moyes get a chance with a top club, but Chelsea is not for him. Moyes doesn’t suffer fools and that would put him immediately on a war footing with both the playing staff AND the management!
Mourinho would be interesting if only from the point he would have absolutely nothing to lose or prove. Plus he could rub the Russians nose in it and get a deal that would keep the Russian’s interfering nose out of it all. But I think Roman-rich couldn’t take that.
To be honest, who really wants the job? The side needs massive investment to keep pace with City now and that would mean ousting those playing elements that can’t hack it anymore. Someone will of course take it on; with a fat contract safe in the knowledge that everyone thinks Chelsea is a joke so that if it does go wrong there is no mud to stick and several millions in the bank.
Oh what a mess! Couldn’t happen to a nicer club………………….
