Topic: Silver Jubilee vs Black Jubilee?

Hi
Is there a difference in the Silver jubilee and the Balck Jubilee? I just recently aquired a black Jubilee and it seems to have a different tone, charecter then the silver. I can't put my finger on it ( no pun intended) but the black one seems to sound better. Anyone else had similair experiences?

I believe in the last Rig Rundown video, Joe said that he found that the black Jub was a little cleaner so he could turn the gain up a little more.

Re: Silver Jubilee vs Black Jubilee?

If your Silver is an early one the circuit is just a bit different then the later Silvers and Blacks. I want to say the serial #'s pre 3100 were the original design but was tweeked after that. I'm sure someone out there knows the exact serial number of the change.

Re: Silver Jubilee vs Black Jubilee?

I've even heard from people that a black 89 sounded better than a 88. Tone is subjective.

I'd love to hear a side by side comparison between the Marshal Silver >Marshall Black>Ceriatone>Cat 5 Jubilees. It would be cool to have all in one room to hear exactly how they stack up against each other.

Yeah that would be great I almost could do but no Ceriatone

Re: Silver Jubilee vs Black Jubilee?

You'd need a 1996 Slash Jubilee too. I've also seen a few black Jubilees with a 1990 serial number. I wonder if there's any difference in those compared to previous years?

Re: Silver Jubilee vs Black Jubilee?

I'd just buy one...
Oh, of course I'm going to end up with the certain tolex version which is tonally inferior! roll

Well said!

Re: Silver Jubilee vs Black Jubilee?

No two Marshall amps sound the same even with consecutive serial numbers.
I just bought an '88 Jubilee 1x12 combo and love it.
