Hey Brack,

I know I am taking over your thread, but I just want to ask you a favor here?

I am a big Simon Kirke fan also and saw where you posted about him.  Can you tell me on the Simon Kirke thread what made Simon special too you?  What kind of things do you like in his playing that you have taken into yours?

I know you like Adele, so I knew you would see my request for Simon, thanks.

Now back to Adele.

It's a joke is what it is, sorry bracket I know you like her, but it's the whole 'real music' killing bullshit that manipulates her into  a position of selling 10 million copies that makes me spit nails. Her first album was atrocious, her second, well the production team were first class, enough said.
This is the whole real reason why real bands rarely get anywhere. Poeple will happily pay £40,£50,£60 to see this shite, while their local pub has more talent for £5 and is left struggling for punters. Really does get my goat.

The success comes from her awesome singing voice. I'm not a fan of most modern music like many others on this discussion but I think Adele is brilliant. That woman's got some soul, and stands head and shoulders above all the other mass-market music around today. There's no AutoTune on her records!

This simply is not true, every studio recording will require a degree of correction using autotune (or of course a similar product), even the great tenors. That is the engineers job and part of the mixing process. That is no dig at Adele, it is just a matter if fact. Of course some artists rely heavily on this process and some do not.

Re: Adele

A shift away from this topic a sec ...To answer Martin regarding autotune - The Foo Fighters album- Wasting Light
Dave G went back to recording the album on old tape machines - no autotune, nothing digital on that one !  Don't take my word.... ask around

Indeed true, I was just making a point referring to the many artists nowadays that rely heavily on it (and you can hear it in a lot of cases...). Although we all seemed to get on just fine without Autotune before it was released in 1997...

Re: Adele

Brack tape or digital, there is still an amount of correction in the mixing process, autotune is probably a bad anolagy as it has had so much bad press being used for instant correction live performances.
Even for great vocalists, there will be a degree adjustment. A good analogy is a fine lead crsytall decanter, looks flawless and beautiful. Look very closley at the surface is flawed.
Back to Adele, i dont think I ever said she uses autotune. I just could not understand the all round difference between her first and second CDs, they are like chalk and cheese. I wish her well and good luck to her. Just nit my bag, if we all liked the same thing, life would be vary different and sometimes I lose sight of that. You would not what yo know what I think of the poo fighters wink, millions of others love them.

Re: Adele

just seeing Adele listed a few times in the famed guitarists thread on appreciating other artists CD's jogged my memory on the subject and thought I would add something.

My daughter gets bombarded from school friends with pressure to follow the latest boy/girl band/simon cowell rip-off no talent thing... that I think  a few on here have] wrongly assumed that Adele was in that same category. But it is actually Adele that she stands firm on citing that the girl writes her own songs and can sing live, she (my daughter) has worked hard on learning one of her songs on the keyboard and she has a music book from the album "18" to go into her Christmas stocking this year.

As I may have said on here before Adele is not my taste but that does not exclude me for appreciating talent when I see/hear it, - and if that talent goes some way to inspiring youngsters to involve themselves in playing an instrument then they have to be doing a good thing surely?

Legendary ? No ... not yet!

The use of the word, "destroys" is harsh imo, and evokes a level of violence in my view , besides, Miss Adele is a baby, in terms of   vocal experience.
Miss Adele is currently recovering from her throat operation - all is well - so i hear. I wish her a speedy recovery.

HELLO!

Sorry I haven’t written for a while. Thank you for all your positive thoughts and get well wishes. I’m doing really well, on the mend, super happy, relaxed and very positive with it all. The operation was a success and I’m just chilling out now until I get the all clear from my doctors. Thank you to everyone who voted for the awards I’ve won recently as well. Hugely appreciated. I best get back to practicing my mime show now. Take care, miss you all –

Soulfully yes - vocally Adele has way more gears in her engine.  Singing within her comfort range, Beth is an excellent singer, but those high notes expose every cigarette that's passed through her lungs.  Hurts my ears.

Sorry, Brack...Sir..I meant...I would quite easily never miss hearing Adele's voice...but Beth's...I sure would...on any song.

Curby...I like the flaws (and look what's happened...Adele's voice has popped already - could be the booze and fags or stress, but it's there)...perhaps 'vocally' I meant in the same sense...and not 'technically'.  Either way...it's like listening to a pleasant session musician who I can't argue with...to say...Dickie Betts playing a '59 Les Paul. It's just there..and always will be.

As this young lady has reportedly topped the UK album & single charts in 2011, she's also gone and done it in the US.

Re: Adele

I watched the RAH concert, fair play to her she gave a great performance. Not my bag, but she did perform very well indeed.

Re: Adele

I too, in the UK for the holidays saw the RAH concert.

The singing was sublime, and she has a distinctive voice, almost instantly recognisable which is always a good thing.

To her massive credit (with me anyway) she interacts with the audience freely and easily provides anecdotes, and details of her music and where and why it came about.

Long may she do so and continue with a successful. I won't say it isn't my thing, because as a great singer, she is. We have her CD's 19 & 21 and soon they will be on my Brennan which no doubt will pluck them out occasionally for me!
