Don't know how you'd pigeon-hole Jay; blues, jazz, soul, gospel, even some 80's AOR; but somehow he makes it work on this album. You can almost sense a story running through it (no, not a concept album). Young guy, getting ready for a Saturday night out on the town, meets someone who knocks his socks off, relationship develops and grows before things slowly change and it falls apart leaving him to question himself. We've all been there, only the genders have been changed to protect the uninvolved.
Musically, 10 really good tracks, 6 really good and would love to hear "live", but 3, "You've Changed","Don't Wait Too Long" and "Lovin' Man" are especially strong.
He's kept the same production team as previous "Sorted" album, and backing musicians, but Jay features guitar, bass, piano, organ, drums, percussion, trumpet, trombone, sax as well as horn and string arrangements. I'll give this an 8/10
Mike
