Have any idea how many shows down this way he has had to shorten or cancel entirely just because he was flat out drunk? Way too many. He can go hang out with Don Imus. lol

At some point, resting on your laurels gets real tiresome. Agreed! Way too many celebs spouting political junk with brainless quotes lately as if the fans should believe they are smart. The only thing coming out of their mouths should be singing.  hmm

Re: The NFL - National Football League

Today a great football man passed. He was the self styled maverick, the trailblazer for racial equality at every level of the sport, and treated his players like the men they were, cobbling together great teams from the outcasts and dregs of other teams. We loved to hate him and his teams since they always had game back in the day. The  Raiders broke the hearts of us Charger fans more than once.
Much Respect. The game won't be the same without him.
RIP Al Davis.

Rest In Peace???? REALLY? As you said Rick, Mr. Davis was a maverick, it was his way or the highway or I'll see you in court. Rodger Goodell had kind words for Al, but I'm sure he and many other league officials are breathing a sigh of relief now that Al can't hold them accountable for the way they run the NFL. He was one of a kind and a great football mind regardless of some of the draft picks over recent years. It's a sad day for the Raider Nation. Mr. Davis passed away, but I doubt that he's at rest. No doubt Uppie, Tooz, Lyle, & Dalby were waitin' for the Boss at the pearly gates which they probably decorated in Silver & Black.

Thanks JDawg for mentioning the Pearly Gates with those players who will be there for him.  Like the decor and he will feel right at home with his friends.  Take care my Dawg Pound friend.

Well, the Black and Silver played one for the man and did what they needed to do. Our Bolts look a bit luckier but continue to give us the jim-jams as a big lead evaporates to jeopardy time again.  yikes  Mr. Tebow looks to be the real deal. Glad they didn't start him!

Man, it looked bad at first spotting the Falcons two touchdowns. But then, adjustments were made and the Packer defense put up a brick wall. 25 unanswered points later and we had our fifth victory. smile

5 and 0 and destined for the Big Show? Only time will tell...

Yeah, we were cheering on the Falcons hoping to see the string broken but alas, not to be this week. Our guys get the bye and need it as there are a lot of injuries to important players.

You are the reason that a Girl started the NFL Topic.

With you Mr. Davis, I could never feel out of place as a girl who YOU made love Football.  Because all through your life, you opened doors for people and gave them opportunities to try new things that otherwise they would not have experienced.  Not only did you open doors, but you helped them though to exceed to higher levels with your guidance and wealth of knowledge.  I can't list the number of people that you have helped through the NFL and other endeavors, because the list is too numerous.

I can list one to this day that brings tears to my eyes. And what a friendship you 2 have.
The Great Jim Otto.

"There were several times when I was very ill," Otto said. "Every time I was ever in the hospital - and I was in the hospital many, many times - he called every day, checked me out, made sure I was all right.  Jim Otto had to have his leg amputated.

It was such an honor to go to a game and see you and him in your box.  Jim Otto is such a kind and generous man who is one of the strongest individuals I have ever seen.
You made sure Jim would always be home where he belonged on Game Day - In Raider Nation.

You built us Mr. Davis, a Nation.  The Raider Nation that anywhere we play an away game, I see lots of my fellow Raider fans rooting as hard for the team as we do at home. The Raider Nation that will forever burn your legacy of "Commitment to Excellence", "Pride and Poise" and "Just Win Baby".  It will never be the same without you, but you would want us to be even stronger now for what you have built. The Raiders were not just your team, they were your family.  And us as fans felt that, saw that, and knew that.  You welcomed so many former Raiders back to the team and made sure they and their wives and families were taken care of. If someone was ill, you wanted to make sure they got the best care possible. You would arrange it.

Al Davis Bled Silver and Black, he loved football, he loved his team, and he loved his fans-dpad.

This here is who he was:  He wasn't just a coach to his players, he was a coach to us fans.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOb91R5_Ccs&NR=1

This is just my take without all the history, innovation, brilliant mind, scouting, coaching, maverick, visionary because I could write a book.  There will never be anyone ever close to you and what you built with football with the way that you did things.  You did things your way.  You are the only one who would ever draft Janokowski, a field goal kicker with the 17th pick and punter Shane Lechler in the same draft in the 5th round.  And now they are the foundation of the team, Jano ties 2 NFL records in 5 games.  They have changed the way the whole NFL looks at kicking.  Kickers aren't a joke anymore because of what you foresaw.

You were the Owner, but the closest called you "Coach".

I'm glad that the last thing you got to see was Hue Jackson as the Coach you gave the Raiders.
He is a True Raider and will stand true and carry on to what you want embodied in this organization.  He will fight for you and what you fought for.  "Just Win Baby"

that was a close one Rick, he came very close to completing that last pass. But no, I will insist that Tim is not a true NFL QB yet, and they will have to install a completely new offensive scheme for him to be remotely successful. Fact is stranger than fiction, this Sunday when Denver plays at Miami the fish will honor the last Univ of Florida national championship team. Odd, being they are in Miami, who decided that was a good idea. And Tim Tebow who was on that Florida team will start for the Broncos. Incredibly bad timing on Miami's part, I guess they never dreamed that Tim would start this game.
Watched last night as Jay Cutler was bombarded from all sides and still had a brilliant game. I have never seen a QB make so many accurate passes in the face of that kind of pass rush. Whatever the problem is or is not with Chicago, it isn't Jay Cutler holding them back. Detroit just has too many beasts on both sides of the ball. I tell you that Green Bay vs Detroit is going to be a real barnburner. Anybody know what week that occurs?

I had the date wrong on Denver @ Miami, it is Sun 10/23 and not this coming weekend.

After all the brouhaha about Hank Williams Jr. and his NFL song, he decided it was time to state his case. To avoid any controversy here, I'll just say look up "Keep The Change" on yt. Warning, political content and opinion ahead.  tongue Pretty darn good song too.

Chicago's problem used to be that their offensive line sucked...now it's that their offensive line sucks AND evidently so does their defensive line. They have been unable stop the run over the last few weeks.

I kept waiting for Cutler to end up hurt. He sure hung tough under an adverse situation. The Bears need to rethink the plan to keep Cutler from harm. He deserves better.

This Sunday is the battle of the resurgents.....SF vs. Detroit. The pressure is on the Pack to defend and that's not always easy.
on the Jim Harbaugh show this am he was asked what the Niners would do during their Bye Week. He responded, we call it improvement week. Bay Area football is getting interesting again. The Silver & Black are on a mission as well.
