Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

Just want to say that I think the world of Charlie, and do not hold any ill feelings for he and his team wanting to win. ATL got what they deserved and are obviously not as good as the Phils. Charlie is a total class act, and I love the fact that he won't take any crap off anybody. I wish I felt the same about Tony. hmm

Tres, part of me was thinking strategically we'd be better off losing to the Braves, I'd rather face you than St. Louis.  Cards LaRussa paid Charlie Manuel a compliment for playing to win when he could have taken an easier path.  My son thinks absolutely, the Yankees threw the game away, I hadn't really thought of that until he mentioned it.  He feels the Red Soxs would have done the same thing if things were reversed, they hate each other.

I don't care who's side you were on tonight, but that was THEE most entertaining night of baseball I've seen in many moons. The Cards were the only team to run away with their game. The other 3 were nail biters right down to the wire. First game to end was Phil/Atl, extra innings and a heartbreaking loss for ATL, and I sat through it with Dan Uggla's Mother, sister, & brother in law. They took it well and BTW, there all over the Cards the rest of the way having a lot of friends in St. Louis and Dan's Mom told me she wished Daniel had signed with the Cards instead of the Braves. What can you say about the cellar dwellers from Baltimore....FANTASTIC finish and the look on all those Sox fans faces, absolute disbelief, like the curse has been reinstated. At least nobody had to watch Papelbon the goat do his jig this time around!!! Finally, the hottest team in baseball, Tampa. Do the Yankees really wanna face them again??? On to the playoffs!!!

Did anyone read the story yesterday about the little boy, whose firefighter Dad fell to his death at Ranger Stadium, throwing out the first pitch of the play-offs?  It's hard not to get a lump in your throat reading about this family's plight.

Very touching, but there are many angles to it as I heard discussed on the radio today. Sad all the way around IMO.

Allright, if there is another thread somewhere I'll kill this one  tongue  .....lets bring out your heart, and your head....here's what Shreddy thinks about the season in short.....this is a "all teams stay relative healthy for the year"

Right off the top of my head  roll

The National League pennant:  San Francisco Giants vs Philadelphia Phillies.....winner Philly in 5 games

The American League pennant: Boston Redsox vs The Minnesota Twins....winner Redsox in 5 also

World Champions:......PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES!!!!!! in one of the greatest series ever....that would be Game 7....Doc Halladay vs Josh Beckett

My heart is The New York Yankees in 7 games against anyone.....but I will go on record right now and say they are done, not another sniff of a World Championship for years  neutral  ....Derek Jeter gets this 3000th hit and Alex Rodrigues gets closer to 700

Shreddy....your Sacramento Baseball analyst

Hope Shreddy didn't wager anything on those predictions. We're down to the LCS round and I've been in the Cardinals corner since the playoffs started and very happy to see LaRussa's guys pull out the win tonight. What a brutal week for Philly Phans, first the Niners roaring back from a 20 point deficit to hand the Eagles their 3rd loss and now the Phillies bowing out in the first round, sorry it didn't go your way Angela. Last Friday Howard Eskin(Philly sportstalk host) was on SF's KNBR Sports Radio and said the Eagles were a "stone cold" lock to beat the Niners, and he'd ride a bike all the way to SF if the Eagles lost....start peddlin' Howie!!! Hope the Philly Phaithful handle this better than the Vancouver hockey fans did, after all its only a game, not the end of the world. BTW, I was downtown last night watchin' Cal/Oregon and the Yankees/Tigers finish got a roar outta the crowd as loud as if the Giants had won the game. Not a lotta love 'round here for those pompous pinstripers and to watch A Rod K to end it was poetic justice....you can't buy it!!!

smile Most excellent baseball so far in the playoffs. I believe I gave passing mention to the Redbirds a bit back. I'm in their corner as well. Carpenter was masterful tonight. I love this game! Money can't always buy you wins.

"I see the Cardinals winning this year."

Soon after I posted the above comment the Cards went into a tail spin only to come roaring back.  I can't believe Philly slammed the door on the Braves that last series to play the redhot Redbirds.  Last night was like a classic World Series pitchers duel and I feel the best team won.

Re: 2024 Major League Baseball season

A fantastic season for the Phils that fizzled...Charlie got his 102 wins though...I have nothing but admiration for St. Louis, to be where they were in the end of August to now, taking advantage of the Braves situation...talk about turning the heat up!!  When Ryan Howard got his big contract, my son made a prediction I wasn't happy about, such a darn smarty pants he is... I would love to be a fly in the boat next time Roy Halladay and Chris Carpenter go fishing.  big_smile

Congrats to Rhonda, enjoy flying with the the Redbirds. smile

And about the previous comments about the Texas Rangers...I have very mixed emotions about the statue being erected at the stadium...cute little boy, such a heart wrenching tragedy.  Negligence maybe softened a little by heartfelt condolences...

I could never choose between good friends like Roy and Rhonda, but choosing between the Cards and the Brewers is easy...Go Brewers!

if you did not see the opener last night for the game in Detroit, it was Aretha belting it out again. I was a little more than verklempt, got chills running up my back at the ending. Whatever health problems she had, she's still got it.

Exciting games so far. Detroit looks to be on the ropes. Texas is bombs away. This is way better that watching Boston, Yanks etc. (I'm sure the media would disagree.  lol )
