Topic: Worn out grooves???

I was thinking about albums that I have played most frequently over the years, albums that have been played enough to "wear out the grooves" (like most of us, I started out listening to vinyl). Albums that have been listened to hundreds of times.
Joe is one of two artists with multiple albums on my list. There's probably a few more albums that could make my list, but these are the first ones that came to mind:

Aja (Steely Dan)
Dark Side Of the Moon (Pink Floyd)
Live at Fillmore East (Allman Bros)
Eat a Peach (Allman Bros)
Led Zepplin (1)
ANDY Live (JB)
Blues Deluxe (JB)
You & Me (JB)
Bridge of Sighs (Robin Trower)
Strong Persuader (Robert Cray)
Best of Stevie Ray Vaughn (SRV)
Aqualung (Tull)
Blow by Blow (Jeff Beck)

How about you??

Thanks for noticing Shred.
I'm a Beatles fan and originally had Abbey Road, Revolver and Rubber Soul in the running for my list. Although I listened to them alot, I realized they really belonged on the "B" list.

Re: Worn out grooves???

All my Joe is on CD so the vinyl I wore deep grooves into was this (and they were what I call "the thick" records......

Meet the Beatles (1964)
Beatles '65
Beatles VI (1965)
Help! (1965)
Rubber Soul (1965)
Magical Mystery Tour (1967)
Doors - Strange Days (1967)  "People are strange, when you're a stranger...."
Buffalo Springfield (1966) For What It's Worth (Stephen Stills-what a vocalist & guitarist, one of my all-time favorite musicians)
The Animals "House of the Rising Sun"
The Boxtops "The Letter"..  gimme' a ticket for an aeroplane, ain't got time to take a fast train...
Blue Cheer "Summertime Blues"  thought I was really rebellious in listening to this, original heavy
Donovan's Greatest Hits (1968)
Santana Abraxas
Iron Butterfly "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida"
the list could go on and on as we didn't have all the "techy" stuff of today...just that turntable...listened to a lot of scratchy sounds when the needle was needing replaced.....many many 45's, too......this music obsession started long ago......okay for a little country girl in the middle of the cornfields of Iowa.......and the Woodstock era.....now there were some high times...... Patty

P.S.  I would have made you an icon in my day Joe.......I could have lined my bedroom walls with pic's of you instead of The Beatles...  lol

Re: Worn out grooves???

Hey Bill this is such an interesting thread to see how many different styles of music from different eras there are.  I guess this lot will show my age.

Led Zep ..... II, III, IV (classic LPs)
Deep Purple ... Fireball, Burn
Pink Floyd ... Dark side (kept that pyramids poster on my wall for years)
Pink Floyd ... Wish you were here
Bad Company ... Straight Shooter
Peter Frampton ... Frampton Comes Alive
Slade ... Slade Alive (really rocks, completely different from their bubblegum pop days)
T Rex ... Electric Warrior
The Who ... Tommy
Queen ... Queen II (amazing and original)
Joe Bonamassa ... SILT and ANDY (not on vinyl but still played a LOT)

Plenty of others (some I wouldn't want to admit to in public smile but there all loved.

Re: Worn out grooves???

Bill S.- cool thread, I use to be a huge Steely Dan fan, didn't replace most of their stuff in CD format, so I don't listen to them that much. I'm especially fond of Led I and Aqualung and I'll throw in the Stones, Let It Bleed for something different to everyone's oldie list.  We all need someone we can lean on....

Shred-I knew I liked you from the start- CHEERS to Seargent Pepper-The Beatles changed the face of music forever.  Will always LOVE them and am still really partial to Rubber Soul since it was my first purchase of a record.

Lyn B.-Gotta second your most played JB...love them all, but both of these are the Holy Grail in my book, to borrow Stu's line. wink

Have to comment on Pink Floyd- Dark Side-  My kids know all the stats on the Dark Side of the Moon album, it still holds elite status among statistics. Saw Roger Waters Friday night...  in one word   AWESOME!!!  Any Pink Floyd fans-do not miss this tour!!!!  Especially if you didn't see the original tour in 1973 or if your kids are fans, etc.  It was great to see a ton of younger fans at the show.  Roger threw out the first pitch at the Phillies game next door to the arena Friday night...threw a strike to the Phillie Phanatic, everyone was saying what a great guy Roger is, stopped and sign autographs.  What an incredibly creative guy, the entertainment part of the show was fantastic! They added a second show by demand Saturday night...great talented band Roger is touring with. smile

Re: Worn out grooves???

This thread got me thinking back to the days of vinyl. What fun it was. Direct drive turntables with upgraded cartridges; variable speed settings adjusted so that the strobe light made the dots stand still; setting the counterweight just right; the ritualistic handling the records as they were placed on the turntable and the ceremonial cleaning of them; and the ever-so-carefully placing of the tone arm...and of course, copies of Firesign Theatre, Monty Python, and "A Child's Garden of Grass" at the ready...  wink
