JST has had the support of Joe fans for a while now. I'll be seeing her in Hagerstown, Md, in May! And, I can't wait to watch Layla smash those drums again. Cathy

edit - again, just a letter

Yeah , I'll be seeing her again in a few weeks in Buxton supporting Glenn Hughes.......Should be a good night .

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor UK tour

Joanne popped around to see the lads last week, a sight for sore eyes, she looked amazing. Living in the USA sure suits her.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor UK tour

Caught Joanne's opening UK tour show at the Robin 2 last night.
I've been a big fan of Joanne's music since before her first CD release and have seen her on several occasions, but I have to say last night's gig was something special. It was sort of a homecoming gig for Joanne, as she's originally from just a few miles down the road - the Robin was heaving and the big crowd was treated to a great set, mostly originals from Joanne's two albums. Backing her on this tour are her US rhythm section, Paul Lamb and Layla Hall (who earlier played a short set with their own band, P-A-U-L) and put together with Joanne they form a power trio tighter than the proverbial mosquito's tweeter  smile  Virgil McMahon was invited up to jam with Joanne during the encore and the two of them had the house begging for more.

I've seen a fair few gigs so far this year, and some pretty impressive ones too, but Joanne's performance last night tops the lot - easily. She's playing better than ever, and seems to have developed considerably as a player in the few months since I last saw her play.

I was busy with my camera during the gig - here's the results http://www.flickr.com/photos/42034502@N … 0450/show/

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor UK tour

Thanks for the review Ian, it's whetted my appetite for Sunday. Had to book an early flight home from Manchester to make sure I am home on time.

WOW what a gig in Aberdeen. I am so pleased she got a healthy crowd. The set was  1 hr and 45 minutes and showcased her amazing talents. What I liked was the obvious enjoyment she gets out of playing as she has a smile on her face most of the time. She is an amazing talent who deserves to be a success. I just love her vocals and her rendition of Manic Depression had the crowd in raptures. Kudos to Layla and Paul. Her drum solo during Goilng Down was a la John Bonham - palms of her hands plus elbows.

This performance will stay with me for a long time, even after a truly sensational Roger Waters gig.

Kenny - I think you'd agree Joanne's really on fire right now, and she's pulling in bigger audiences all over. I treated myself and Mrs Icon to a weekend in Edinburgh and caught her show at the Caves on Friday. The place was packed and despite quite a few worrying moments with her amp popping and spitting, she pulled out all the stops and brought the house down. No time for an encore though - she was made to cut her set short, and there were a few shinanegins with some guys who were keen to get the band's gear off the stage so they (superstars that they were) could start playing house music or something for the late night session.
Fortunately we caught Layla's drum solo at the Robin on Tuesday. Me - I usually head for the bar when a drummer strikes out on a solo......... but I couldn't take my eyes off Layla - amazing.

Turned out to be a real good weekend too - saw a superb set by Oli Brown the following night at the same venue.  big_smile

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor UK tour

We're really looking forward to seeing her play a festival crowd at Hagerstown on June 5, my last show before I head for home. I bigged her up to several people at the Chesapeake festival last weekend.  cool

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor UK tour

Ian - the Caves is a nice little venue but is a pain for having a Friday curfew. I'm jealous that you'll see Joanne again at Maryport whilst I'm stuck in Glasgow watching BCC  smile

Not too shabby an alternative Kenny............ lol

Loved the Caves - never been to a gig before where stalactites hang from the ceiling and water runs down the walls  big_smile
Joanne had the place packed  - a few less for Oli the following night but still a decent crowd.
