Caught Joanne's opening UK tour show at the Robin 2 last night.
I've been a big fan of Joanne's music since before her first CD release and have seen her on several occasions, but I have to say last night's gig was something special. It was sort of a homecoming gig for Joanne, as she's originally from just a few miles down the road - the Robin was heaving and the big crowd was treated to a great set, mostly originals from Joanne's two albums. Backing her on this tour are her US rhythm section, Paul Lamb and Layla Hall (who earlier played a short set with their own band, P-A-U-L) and put together with Joanne they form a power trio tighter than the proverbial mosquito's tweeter
Virgil McMahon was invited up to jam with Joanne during the encore and the two of them had the house begging for more.
I've seen a fair few gigs so far this year, and some pretty impressive ones too, but Joanne's performance last night tops the lot - easily. She's playing better than ever, and seems to have developed considerably as a player in the few months since I last saw her play.
I was busy with my camera during the gig - here's the results http://www.flickr.com/photos/42034502@N … 0450/show/
