Re: When do you quit worrying about money?
Trust me, when you retire!
A long time ago someone told me, "If you're constantly counting your pennies, you'll never have enough time to count dollars." Turns out, he was right.

Money doesn't buy happiness... I completely agree. Happiness to me is the health and well being of my wife and two daughters. As long as they are in good health (physically and mentally), I am one blessed individual.
Now.. that being said, money does buy security, self reliance, good food, nice wine, great seats at concerts, tickets to the occasional national championship college football game and the ability to give more than my fair share to church and charity.
I work for a large multi national company and I work damn hard and long, make beaucoup personal sacrifices and pay more in taxes than i ever thought I would gross in a year. I am truly blessed and fortunate. I save alot more than I spend and, although the best laid plans of mice and men often go astray, the goal is to save enough to get out of this rat race in 10 or 12 years so my wife and i can spend more time at nice restaurants, eating well and drinking great wines before we mosey on over to our seats near the front of the concert hall, wake up the next morning and cheer for the Tigers and deposit a nice check in the collection basket on Sunday before I cheer for the Saints or Steelers.
Yeah, money ain't so bad. I like life better with it than without it

Both from the highly recommended artist Dan Hicks (& His Hot Licks), and in this case album Where's The Money?, which was released in 1971 and you shouldn't worry about money and get it, it's a desert island type disc for me....

Music is my MONEY & My Honey!
A couple of real gems Rocketman, used to catch Dan every chance I got all over the Bay Area back in the '70's. A fave album in my vinyl collection is Close Cover Before Striking. Sorry for drifting off here with the cash ain't nothin' but trash thought, but hey Shred mentioned M-O-N-E-Y which according to the Fab T-Birds is how you spell love.

From a refreshing front page article in today's paper about successful local author Elle Newmark, who started her writing career late in life.
"Our stories can be inspiring or they can be cautionary tales, but after the will has been read and the loot distributed, your story is all that is left. Real success is finding something you love and doing the hell out of it."
Sage words from another who visited death's door and still lingers on the steps.
Rick
I've never had enough money to start worrying about it.
Also, after a couple of near misses with my friend the Grim Reaper back in the 70's I found I had a better appreciation for the things that really matter; like taking the next breath, seeing the sun rise, being able to hear music, walk, talk - you get the idea
Money cant buy you happiness??....BULL PUCKY!!!.....cuz I is very happy when I have it in my hand ....I made a really really bad real estate investment a little over a year ago, lost my arse, and I have been beating myself up something bad .....greed greed greed, I get what i deserve....LOSER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shreddy, the soon to be free loader
BTW can I borrow a fiver till my hunchback uncle straightens up? Say a prayer Dave. You are NOT alone. I have a family member who lost 2 million dollars worth of property and now lives with his family in a rental walkup.

i can never stop worrying about money. after all, that's how we can live through the life. i must say, money 'can' buy happiness.

Rick
I really like that Rick. I've always been a practical person and very determined to have a comfortable life, for which I've worked very hard (for an international corporation like Rockfarmer). Happily I am no longer a workaholic, I take a lot of time for "finding something you love and doing the hell out of it!"
In the past I would panic if there wasn't a certain amount of $ in the bank so to speak; learning the hard way like everyone else the past 2-3 years how there is always someone waiting with a way to take it (don't get me started on that topic, which I gather is off limits for this forum anyway!) ... though also knew on some level everything couldn't keep exploding upwards, didn't have enough free time to realize the bubble was so close!!!
... so surprisingly during the more lean years, I have focused more on enjoying life, enjoying time off, playing hard, not worrying about spending some money on toys to enjoy while I'm still young enough and healthy enough to enjoy it all ... and I'm real clear in my mind that if I had to downsize to a smaller home, I'd be real okay with it ... still driving my jeep 7 years later ... priorities are clear ... love, friends and family are absolutely the most important, followed closely by doing the things I love, including music, especially all things Joe, traveling for Joe Shows, hiking, and spending as much time out in nature as possible!
... and I am thankful to still have a job, with the same company I've worked with for many years, and lucky enough that responsibilities keep changing enough to keep me growing & learning while earning!
we can never really stop worrying about money, can we? after all, if we stop worrying about money, we will be left with nothing. to have a good life, we need money and for money we need to worry for it so that we can actually get it.
How about you get rid of your signature which offends my sensibilities and go watch a movie. You seem to be a ticket shill as you have not one post remotely discussing Joe Bonamassa. But you do mention Jeff Dunham and MU soccer as likes...If you are trying to pay for college or something, just say so. I might be alone in thinking you have only one motive, but I am putting you on report. Joe is not playing Westbury this year, so why do you have a phony link for tickets?????
We don't really have a high opinion of ticket brokers around here currently, so..........

I'm glad you liked that Sandy. She recently lost the battle with her disease and passed not long after the article was written. Her legacy remains in print as she desired.
For me, I never had a lot, but I have a job I love and made enough to get the kids through schooling and off on thier own. Our little business has supported several families for going on 35 years. We didn't get rich but enjoy the admiration of our peers in the industry for surviving tough times while earning a global reputation for being among the very best at what we do. I don't need much to be happy in life. I and the wife have each other's enduring love, good health, a lot of fine friends, and great live music to enjoy in the coming years while we spoil our grandchildren. In my eyes, that is plenty!
...when do you quite worrying about money? ...you don't! ...well the vast majority don't ...the three divisions of the Control System ...Money,Religion and Politics! ...you don't have to buy into the Religion ...you don't have to buy into the Politics ...but They have got you by the balls on the the last one! ...so if all you do is argue about the Lib's the Lab's or the Dem's on your way to church ...your completely fuzzed!
I will put my 2 cents in lol.I do worry about money all the time. At one time things were going well.Had a bad divorce. Now have to try to take care of my bills plus child support.I met my soulmate. She is self employed. Now as luck would have it her business is practically nilch. Now I am trying to keep our ends covered plus pay my other obligations. To top things off my ex took me to court for moneys owed. Now her numbers are way off and I have had to cover legal bills which has all but wiped out the little money I have saved for retirement at 53..Its been a rough 2011 and holding on for dear life.
But you know what?I have a great woman and 2 beautiful girls .I work till exhausted most of the year(winters slower season)and pray that it will all work out.
I still worry but keep pushing on.(no RE0 joke).I pray for things to come around this year.Never thought I would be in this situation at this age.Its hard for me to put this up because I am more of a private person, but I know others have struggles too.Sometimes its good to share to know your not the only one .

A very long time ago I had a contested divorce. Left pretty much all of our savings stocks and bonds to my ex for sake of making it easier to to just end. My lawyer (who I haven't seen in years was very unhappy with me for that. But like you, I worked like hell and survived and was grateful for all I had that money couldn't buy. I'm with you on doing the best you can and praying for things to work out. Whether they work out how we want them to or we adapt to how they work out, the ultimately work out. Best of luck to you. Sounds like you're rich in many ways.
Twice our business has been so far on the ropes we called our creditors and asked if they wanted to carry us some more or would they like the keys. They gave us terms and we put our heads down and pulled it out when others in the industry bailed out and left them holding the bag. Just work harder and believe in yourself. The American Dream still lives. As Robin said, it sounds like you have a lot going for you both in non material things and attitude.
