Topic: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Caught Joanne's show on a five band card last Saturday in of all places Rothschild, Wisconsin. Today, I'm still flabbergasted over what I witnessed. Never, since seeing Rory Gallagher live, have I witnessed anyone have such an attacking style of guitar playing. Sure, I heard before hand that was how Joanne played and I own both of her CDs, but still I was not prepared. All I can say is, if Joanne Shaw Taylor on lead guitar and vocals, Paul Lamb on bass guitar and backing vocals and Layla Hall on drums and backing vocals are appearing anywhere near you, make sure you don't miss it! cool

Hopefully the pictures and video that follow will explain things much better than I can verbally...

You are lucky Roy.
That looks like hot stuff.
Sadly there are no stops in Georgia.
Did you get to talk to her?

I did Blueser, but just a little, I didn't want to take up too much of her time as everyone wanted to say hello and get things signed at the merch table. I actually got to talk to Joanne about "StringsforaCURE" and gave her not only a couple of business cards, but also some artist release forms. I explained that her donated strings would be made into jewelry, then sold with the proceeds going to women/families with breast cancer. She said she would definitely send in her strings. smile She also signed my Taylor acoustic guitar right under Joe's signature! cool

Joanne appeared to me to be very serious about her profession. She really has a beautiful smile, but other than when she was taking pictures, she seemed quite serious. Not sure if it was just an off night for her or, if that's just how she normally is as a person. Still, she was very polite and patient with everyone that approached her. Tallan Latz got to meet her too, but didn't get up to play with her. Tallan and his new band where on the same card and let me tell you, they killed the crowd just like Joanne and her band did! I'll have pictures and video of that too. cool

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

it's rockin Roy, move over Grace Potter. I had no idea she played guitar, much less that agressively. I haven't looked at all of them yet, but White Sugar is really smoking. look forward to the Tallan vids as well. no, I don't guess she'll be coming through GA or AL. I'm impressed with her, is there a current CD or one you would recommend? thanks

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

I just checked her tour calendar and the last show listed is in Central Cali. Hopes for a tour extension down south hereabouts. I'd love to see her show.

Hi Tres,

Her first CD called "White Sugar" is very good. Her second one is called "Diamonds In The Dirt" and it's a little different than the first. Some people that I've spoken with didn't like it as much. But I'll be honest, the more I've listened to it, the more I really like it! cool  She is an extraordinary talent and like Rick, I'm hoping she makes a swing South so you can see her. Honestly, Joanne, Paul and Layla were on fire that night and the crowd was stunned after they were done. Tinsley Ellis was the headliner and followed Joanne and as good as he is, I would not have wanted to follow her band. wink

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

I've been waiting for these, Roy.  Unfortunately, the timing is such that I won't be able to view them all till later or tomorrow, as my kids and grandkids from Indy have just arrived for a three day visit - but yeah, I know how Joanne can smoke!  tongue

Don't take it too personal Spider - she went from a personal page to a fan page similar to Joe (although he keeps his friend page - gotta love it) and Davy Knowles among others.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Joanne is fun to watch and of course listen to....i love Layla on the drums as well...........someone mentioned Joanne seeming a bit serious or something like that...............I have seen her 3 times now at Callahans in Detroit (she is there at least 3 times a year...as she lives in Detoit now)   anyway,,,i think she is a bit of a shy person..............i mean not on stage when she is playing......but in general.........i think thats just part of her personality............thats what i see anyway.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

I'm going to see her tonight In Der Schwarzen Adler in Rheinberg! Do an interview as well for www.bluesmagazine.nl Hope Dave is there as well!

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Spider, she did send out notes about this. Her personal Facebook was getting a handful along with the band page, so she tidied them up, keeping her personal page for personal stuff.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

As manywill know Joanne is a friend I have worked closely with her. I get what you mean by a serious side. My take is that she is very very focused and once in stage, she goes into her own world. Off stage she is so much fun, but after a gig she is totally knackered.
Jo called in here a couple of days ago to collect an amp head. I must say Detroit is doing her good, she looked stunning (more stunning than usual). I am also pleased to announce that Virge and Gabba will be her rhythm section at Maryport Blues Festival. That is going. Be really cool, Lang, Sayce, Heinrick hell yeah.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Great show last night and a very nice interview, actually it was more a very familiar chat (with Joe wine!) with her and band. Very, very  nice people!!
Full house and they blew the roof off!
I expected a bluesy show but it was ROCKING! She plays the guitar like it is the last day she can play: what a power!
Review will follow on www.bluesmagazine.nl end of the week.
Hope to see them again in Maryport England this summer.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Impressing show from Joanne & band on Sunday @ Schwarzer Adler.
Joanne was fully loaded and fired with everything she had: fast and furious and extensive guitar playing, a voice that could melt ice and her smile. Not so sure what happened, it was some kind of rock storm and Joanne set the stage on fire.
If you have a rocky heart, don't miss  Joanne & band.

Re: Joanne Shaw Taylor...

Review is on www.bluesmagazine.nl now, Took more time because of a computerproblem. Again!!!!!!

Supporting act was P-A-U-L great rocking blues band from Detroit,:style Bob Seger, Mitch Ryder. There latest album Gunshot Lullaby is very good. Check them out please!
