Topic: Suggestions on repairing a neck.

My favorite guitar had an accident a few years ago that I really don't care to get to get into what happened but some of you know.  Anyway there is a stress crack running with the grain from the back of the head stock.  It starts around the back of the neck at about the nut, and goes up through the the tuner holes ans stops at about the G string tuner.  So far I can bolt the hardware on and keep string tention on it no problem.  but I'm afraid its expanding and contracting and even though I don't have a problem now I think I will in the future.  The crack is so fine I can't get a needle in the crack to put glue in place to stop the contracting.  I can force it open but and might be able to get a needle in that way to glue it but I'll have to get a buddy to help me.  Does anyone have a suggestion to fix this?  I'm currently not using the neck because of this and the frets have 10 years of abuse to them so I bolted my V neck to my american Stratocaster.  I like this neck but miss my 9.5 radius the 7.25 makes bending fun if you know what I mean.  I find that the V neck has me playing fast little country licks more because I dislike bending on it and the 9.5 radius american neck just excel's in everything for me.

Re: Suggestions on repairing a neck.

If it's a strat neck, no offense but why bother? You should be able to find another that's similar fairly easy on ebay. Give a call to Musikraft or USAG. They can make a neck to your specs. Maybe they could repair your broken neck? Otherwise maybe try getting something small like hypodermic needle to push some crazy glue or epoxy into the crack as best you can.

Good Luck!

Re: Suggestions on repairing a neck.

Just a thought, not saying it will definitely work.
But if you could dilute the glue down a bit and brush it along the crack, it might be thin enough to sink in. Then use a cloth to wipe any excess glue off the headstock. Clamp it while it dries.

I'd recommend the new polyurethane adhesive called gorilla glue. It should work. moisten the crack, apply the glue and use a blade to force it in, then trim the stuff that bubbles out with a razor blade after it cures. Permanent, extremely strong, and somewhat flexible repair.

Re: Suggestions on repairing a neck.

Ok I agree its just a strat neck but this guitar is very dear to me in its original state.  This was the not my first guitar but it has been my go to guitar for 10 years and any time I've gone to a practice or a gig out of the 10 years of its life (I bought it in nov. 2001 new) I've had at different points of time over 30 different guitars and when times got rough this was the last one standing.  The V neck I have on it now is good but it really doesn't feel like my old friend.  I put the my old neck on my backup guitar and its like I painted my sunburst or something because it feels the same as it used to.  Call me crazy but I just know that neck like the back of my hand and feel like I can play anything I set out to play.  The V neck feels good but it feels limiting.

Anyways thank you all for the suggestions and I might try them tomorrow.  Worst case is if I mess up I can just replace it, but the V necks gotta go back on the backup guitar.  I need my 9.5 inch radius.
