Topic: Blue And Evil?

Anyone happen to know why Blue And Evil was scratched from the set list after the initial show? Just curious. I was really looking forward to hearing it after seeing it on the first set list...it's one of my favorites big_smile . As it is, the set list as a whole is amazing, so not complaints here.

Regardless, it's going to be a great show...I can't wait! I'm going to the show in Green Bay this Friday, and I'm bringing some friends that haven't heard Joe before...they are in for a treat! It'll be my 7th time though.

Re: Blue And Evil?

Only thing I can think of is that he rocked it so hard, there were multiple casualties. Had to scratch it for the sake of the fans well-being... big_smile  But I agree; I would love to see him perform that in Worcester.

Re: Blue And Evil?

lol I hadn't thought of that, but that could very well be the reason.

I was waiting for that one too, but the show was so amazing I didn't really care.  I have Blue and Evil on my mp3 player, so I listened to it in the car on the way home  wink

Re: Blue And Evil?

The show was 2 hr and 15 minutes I was at. I think it was cut because of time but didn't ask.

Re: Blue And Evil?

I think if you'll go back and read the post on San Diego, the original post from Anaheim listing Blue and Evil may have been in error.  No one else remembered hearing the song and he didn't play it in Dallas either.  But the show was/is fantastic.  I'd love to have a recorded version of "Young Man's Blues".  The energy between Tal and Joe on this song was incredible....

Re: Blue And Evil?

Blue and Evil was on the Anaheim setlist according to those that were there.  No idea why it was scratched after that but I am also curious as to why.  I was looking forward to hearing it live and didn't realize until the next day that I do not remember hearing it.  It drove me a little bonkers for awhile as some insisted that it was still being played.  But no, it was confirmed to only have been played in Anaheim.  This mystery was also discussed in the Las Vegas setlist thread.

It may remain a mystery until someone in the tour camp can give us the low down into the thought process as to why.

Re: Blue And Evil?

I'm sure it had to do with the length of the set.

But as I posted eleswhere, Joe does NOT like the song a little bit. He knows that a lot of us do but he just doesn't care for it. So if there was a song to be tossed, it makes sense that it was that one.

He did indeed play it at Anaheim. The one and only time thus far on this tour.

...if you want to speculate, longer set length trial results in four tired fellows...or they all agreed it weren't so great and we're not so tight on it....etc...if you want to speculate?!  neutral

But it was definitely played at Anaheim and no where else so far.  As to why Joe doesn't particularly like it, if he doesn't, ( hey the T shirt is cool too Joe big_smile ) well-l-l-l-l,......as far as I'm concerned, he is a very particular person to me, and quite particular about everything he does.  The particular reason he doesn't like a song (reputedly he does not care for this one nor Dirt In My Pocket, from Sloe Gin, one of my favorite songs on one of my favorite albums of Joe's) or an entire album or performance is.....all up to him in my opinion. He's The Boss to me.  He decides, I accept! Readily.

He didn't go into detail really. He just made it abundantly clear that he was not a fan of the song and that everyone else seemed to be going crazy over it and he still wasn't going to like it nor did he have to, to paraphrase him.

Maybe Joe can chime in here and clear it all up for us? Perhaps?  wink

Agreed. Joe's the man. He can put whatever he wants in the set list...and I'll be in the crowd lovin' every minute of it.

I like Joe's honesty there, no one can force you to like something, even if folks around you tell you it's brilliant ......... Marmite Scenario comes to mind
i like Blue and Evil,  But my fave off Black Rock is Quarryman's Lament, then I Know A Place and Spanish Boots

I'm glad he relented and put the song on the album.  It's one of  my (generic) favorites wink

Re: Blue And Evil?

Generic....gotta Love the guy.  I see his point, clearly actually.  I speculate he gets / is bored with it.
But J & R ever want an A & R guy.....

Rock & Roll ON & Keep the Faith,

A & R guy says rework it up......to you own liking...or look to a fan to cover it "better" (in your words) to make you realize how you effect others, at your "worst"  wink
