Re: Application to Become a Packers Fan

Thanks Roy!! So Aaron was on the sidelines for 3 years.  Did a lot of the Green Bay fans loose respect for Brett over the last couple of years, especially with the move to the Vikings?

As a total sidenote, this is probably hard for a lot of people to understand, but I named one of my sons Vincent and when he was really little, I can't tell you how many times I cried my eyes out and felt so regretful of naming him Vincent. (I think I had to be hormonal  wink You can't imagine how many people made insulting "Vinnie" jokes. It never dawned on us that Vincent was only associated with mobsters and gangsters.  (could be our New Jersey/northeast residence) Anyway, 15 months later, we put our name choice for our daughter on the back burner and went non-Italian, which I regret...

Anyway, I looked around, but I can't find the winter hat with a pom-pom that says St. Vince, like I saw in the paper.  I want to buy one. It puts a whole new & funny spin on things! Roy, link me if you can find one.  Thanks.  smile  My son Vince is thrilled the Jets lost, there is a real New York rivalry at his college. I rooted for the Steelers a couple of years ago, but not this time.  (At least Vick paid his dues...just my 2 cents)

Re: Application to Become a Packers Fan

Actually Angela, the peope here will support whomever as long as they don't do something really stupid in their persoanl life. Even though it was apparent that Brett's physical skills weren't as sharp as when he was young, people here still backed him. I think a lot of that had to do with the way he played, much like a little kid. He loved the game and still does love it. Sure, he's made a ton of money playing it, but I think with him it's more than that. He's one tough southern boy who was taught never to give up. And let's face it, during his career he could turn a game around with one throw or of course, give one up with the same throw, so it provided quite a bit of entertainment for us in Wisconsin. wink

I really think that Rodgers wouldn't have been the quarterback that he is today had it not been that he was able to learn his craft at the pro-level for three years prior to starting. What you see now is a very polished guy who doesn't let his emotions take over during a game. His own players have a tremendous amount of respect for his abilty and composure. You'll never see him get rattled no matter what the situation is.

Jim,
Unfortunately, now that I know you're a Packer's fan, it will probably only get worse!
There may be a banishment in my future, lol.
No heckling now though...tough to insult a team that's headed to the Super Bowl.

Re: Application to Become a Packers Fan

I've been blamed by Facebook Packer fans as the reason the Bears scored points at all. I posted an update hoping they'd remain scoreless. They said a shutout is like Fight Club, you're not supposed to talk about it.

I'll remember that for the SuperBowl. I didn't know my hopes had that sort of impact on the outcome of a football game!  lol

Uh, this Pennsylvanian feels the need to caution you that while the environment might not be as hostile, a MUCH tougher team awaits you in less than two weeks. big_smile

Steelers fans around here were shocked and delighted to hear that the initial Vegas line actually favored the Packers by 2!

I would never down play or ever cut on the Steelers, next to the Packers they are my favorite team in the NFL. They play tough, hard nose football on both offense and defense and their fans are just as dedicated to their team as we are to ours here. Regardless of the hype, it should be a great contest this year for the Lombardi trophy. That's the VINCE LOMBARDI trophy. The game is a total toss up in my opinion and the team with the least mistakes, that comes to play that day and wants it the most will win. Who will it be? I guess we'll just have to watch... wink

Re: Application to Become a Packers Fan

Vince Lombardi-coached elsewhere also, not so hot.
Steelers-best soundly thrash the Packers or else the fact must be faced-the NFC is currently better by favre if 5 teams have equal or better records than the Packers, AND Aaron Rodgers besting Big Bad Ben (assuming it's the offense of GB that dominates a win for them) puts him up there with the best playing...
I am OK with any outcome for the record.  I can pull for either or both, and change any time during the game.  Both groups of fans can be just as overbearing as Cowboys fans....not as often and consistent, but...

Well, that is true Rocket if you count the last year of his head coaching career which was in Washington. By the way, that year he led the Redskins to their first winning year in 14 years. Not a bad record in his 9 years with Green Bary either, considering he won 5 overall NFL Championshps including the first two Super Bowls. I guess from what you're saying though, he could have done better by winning 9 NFL Champoinships with Green Bay. tongue wink http://www.pro-football-reference.com/c … ombVi0.htm

Not dissing, Bill, I was actually rooting for the Bears, largely due to our recent visit to your fair city! And I also like Lovie Smith. But I just think the Steelers have a better team in total than the Bears. The few times I saw the Bears during the regular season, they didn't look so hot, very inconsistent, hot and cold. Even when the Steelers don't appear to be running on all cylinders, they still generally notch a win.

Roy you are more of a GB Pack fan.  I am more of a Vince Lombardi fan.  I have him in my blood.  Not litereally [sic], but almost.
Among the very best no doubt.  Yes he could've done better since, in the words of Vince, "winning isn't everything, it's the ONLY thing".  So only thing is he wasn't inVinceABLE.  Just like the Genius, Bill Walsh, couldn't finger anything out on his chalkboard the first year he coached the San Francisco 49ers.  Won 2, LOST 14! Oww!

Re: Application to Become a Packers Fan

As a Redskins fan who then supported the Ravens and Bears (Ravens = Cathy's team, Bears = team from my father's home town) I am now prepared to bestow my kiss of death on the Packers (sorry, guys) for two simple reasons - I cannot bring myself to like the Steelers at all, ever, and I've been hugely impressed (who hasn't?) by Aaron Rodgers.

There you have it, down to basics.  big_smile

Re: Application to Become a Packers Fan

I'm torn, being from an AFC town I want to root for the Steelers. They field competitive teams year after year. I've just about disowned my local team at this point. I won't bore you with any rants about the Bills front office, even if they are a bunch of mental zeros.

But I gotta lay my lot with the Packers. I was an apprentice cheesehead from 95-97 when I lived in Janesville, WI. Didn't that #4 guy take them to a championship one of those years?  tongue

It'll be some kind of cheese and some iced down Leinie's here on Super Sunday.  big_smile
