Topic: Chris Duarte

I see Chris Duarte is coming to the Detroit area in July. Definetly want to see him. I saw him back in 94 in Kansas City. Didnt even know who he was at that time but boy I remembered him.

Re: Chris Duarte

I think he's great live!!! I love the song "Romp". He's another that should do a live CD. I don't like my screaming, funky guitar players "cleaned up" in a studio!! Just my taste. And for anybody in the Atlanta area, he often shows up at Darwin's on "jam" night (tues/weds don't remember which). Darwin's is a gem!!!!

Re: Chris Duarte

My favorites are Tex Sugar & the Tailspin cd.  He has a dvd out from Japan with this blues band there, In Sendai.  Pict quality isn't the best on big screen but what a long show.  Available off his web site.  Luv his funky sound.

Chris Duarte is great. Really funky style. Cleopatra is one of my favorite songs to play.

Re: Chris Duarte

Another great guitarist who is a really nice guy as well. Speaking of DVD's, Chris has a limited edition DVD that was filmed with a single stationary camera from about the third row in Sendai, Japan in January 2006 that's fantastic. He's backed by the Japanese blues rock band Bluestone, who were formerly known as The Savoy Truffle before their vocalist left. Amazing stuff, almost 3 hours worth, and the two guitarists mesh wonderfully together, leading to some intricate dual lead lines. The material covered is a mixture of Chris's and Savoy Truffle's, and is at times more hard rock based(ala Gov't Mule) than Duarte's usual fare, but great nonetheless. Quality is really good, but as I said it's only a single camera so there aren't any cuts, fades or closeups. But the music speaks for itself, despite the reserved reception from the Japanese crowd. Seriously, I think there was a stretch of an hour where there was no movement whatsoever from the patrons, so perhaps reserved is being too lenient! But, the music smokes, and if you can handle just watching a band play without big time video production this comes highly recommended. Sound is great, from the soundboard, and the house music playing right before the band begins is Joe's version of "You Upset Me Baby".

You're welcome Rob! Also, just received a promo copy of Bluestone co.'s new CD, 'Bluestone co.' from Japan which Chris co wrote 5 of the 7 tracks, and is on guitar and vocals for those 5 as well. Haven't listened to it yet, as it JUST came in the mail about 15 minutes ago, but I'm on my way this afternoon to see Gov't Mule, so I'll listen to it on the way up and let you know how it is.
