Topic: Berlin..............Last Night

It took me a while to decide to make the way up to berlin but it was worth the long drive. anyway berlin always worth a visit and with a JB concert the evening its even better. there was nothing new on the setlist compared to the shows before.
as it was my 1st JB concert this year a wanted to see and hear something new. well i saw not so much new, except that wonderfull venue ,which was one of the old berlin theatres. joe spoke about 1700 people and that it was sold out. the venue was very nice, but the security in there were just a bunch of a..................les. if i drive for hours and spend a lot of money for a concert i dont need those guys to tell me what i have to do. i am old enough for that. back to the concert.
sure i dont see joe as much as some of you in here but what has not changed is, that very often the "Band" looks more like a one man show.
joe bonamassa is a fantastic player, outstanding, great, saugeil, hammermäßig, excellent, but for me a bit to much focused on himself sometimes. hard to explain.
during the first half of the concert the rest of the band was more or less decorative accessory. what is a bit sad as they are all very good musicians. it got better at 2nd half were there was more interaction between joe and carmine.
hightlight for me was the intro to sloe gin again, really something that sends shivers up my spine and there is ony a very few bands were i got this. happier times is one of my favourite joe songs and at the end just got paid that really rocks.
what makes surprise each time i see him is how fast and at the same time how crystal the tunes come out. as i was in front row it was watching his fingers and at the same time got that tune in the ear or sometimes just close the eyes and flow.
very nice concert and thanx to the Whole Band for the evening.
Thomas

Re: Berlin..............Last Night

Nice Thomas. You are right about Joe being the star. I think that is the way it should be but just my opinion. My son and his mother in law were there last night too but he's not reported yet. Thanks for the post.

Re: Berlin..............Last Night

Hi,

I've flyed from Italy to Berlin just to see Joe and the Band. The show was amazing for me , but I agree with Thomas: sometimes he plays for himself.
Anyway I can't wait to see them again ... maybe in Italy

Ciao

I guess you guys really don't get it, Joe is not playing for himself. He's playing for you & me & everyone else, he's definitely not trying to upstage anyone.

Re: Berlin..............Last Night

Ciao Hombre,

maybe I don't succeed to explain it, because my english is terrible. I love Joe's music, I saw him a lot of time this year and I'll see him everytime is possible. he really gives me ENERGY. No other musician gives me the same.
I know Joe is playng for us, he gave himsef for us, but (it's my opinion) in the first part of the show he seemed to play "far" from the band (not from us). In the second part of the show (from the new song; Train...) he changed  and He played in more connection with Carmine (do you remeber how many times he looked at him), Rick and Boogie (every time He looked him).
That's "my" opinion comparison with other show. However a Great Energy and a fantastic show.
Ciao Thomas and Hombre

PS: I'm sorry but my English it's not so good  big_smile

Hi,

Thanks for your reviews! I love that fans from all over the world post here on this forum. Cool!

Here's a link to an article about Joe in Guitar World. It's probably already been posted on this site. It talks about Joe's career and how he has evolved as a performer. The article describes how a few years ago there was a conscious decision made for Joe to be the "star" of the show and how the current band supports him in that role.

Re: Berlin..............Last Night

Thanks for the link, saboo, that's one of the more informative articles about Joe B. that I've read in a while. Having discovered Joe's music only within the past two or three years but now owning his entire back catalog, including the DVDs ANDYL and Live at the Rockpalast, I've often wondered what prompted the breakup of his old band who seem to me to have been a really tight knit power trio. This article provides a few answers to that question.
