Re: newcastle in october...

What a great night on sunday!Got back home this afternoon and just logged on to see what craic was .I was flying solo on this gig so after a quick one in the downstairs bar, headed up to row GG seat 36,a way back but the sound was great back there.I was in a similar seat to jimmygill63 looking at his viewpoint on Sloe Gin,just a few rows further back.
Cradle Rock got things off to a flyer and things bowled along-a-pace ,seeing a similar set list as described elsewhere-up to Mr Big! Hearing how joe bought  the  guitar then decided to give it an airing on the very stage,in the very town Paul played with Free was indeed a privelage.Think he played two more tracks-one was Young Man's Blues i think-on it.
The first time i looked at the clock was about 9-30 and wondered where the time went, then how long was left! The show was timed to perfection right up to WUD.Django,Just Got Paid et al.The lights were great too, liked the big 5cents logo on the backdrop during Heartaches ,one for us Eurphiles i think,so we knew what a nickel was?! big_smile
A great night was rounded off with a reasonable wait outside in a-surprisingly mild october night in the northeast, not a breath of wind, and Carmine was first(missed Bogie first time around!)out ,came right across the street to meet and chat, autographs etc.Seemed to form an alliance with a slightly 'refreshed' Geordie, whose constantly ringing mobile caused much amusement to us all as he fended off a  family member with lots of 'I'll be home soon,on my way, nearly there'type excuses! big_smile Rick followed soon after ,so chilled and easy to chat to,he duly signed my copy of Black Rock before Joe showed. After hearing a few tales of Free and gigs in the north during their heyday, joe made his way back to the bus, seeing as the engine was running, seemed they were only waiting for him!I asked him as he embarked as to Bogie's whereabouts, seems he was already on board-but he stepped out and asked 'Who's asking?' yikes  but as i'd mentioned to Joe he was the only one missing from my cd cover,he kindly came out and finished the job! I said he had to hit the drums a bit harder..............AS IF HE COULD!But he said he'd try next time! And so i made my way off into the cool night air looking for a taxi rank with my cd cover  sigs drying in my hand,as the bus went past,i optomistically held out my thumb to hitch a lift, and ,you know what?.............................................................................................................................................They drove right on by!  lol  lol Thank you guys for a great show, your time and patience after, you consistently give of your best and we really do appreciate what you do up there for us,thank you again.

Come on you Blades!

You probably know by now that the Duet didn't happen, but she was definately there, hiding behind the speakers to the left of the Stage next to the guitar rack

Sandi? Didn't realise she was there, though Joe did a fine job on his own! smile

Re: newcastle in october...

An update on what i missed out of original  review.Just to say, really, how tongue-tied i get around  people like joe and the bands-even though there were only about 8 or 10 folk waiting outside, the weather was kind,it all seemed so relaxed, you sometimes still come out with the usual 'You were great' 'Sloe Gin was awesome''Can you sign this please','When's BCC touring' type gibberish! To then walk back to the hotel or car and think,'Why didn't i ask this, that or this? Why did i say THAT?' seems like a waste of valuable 'joe-time!'Even now,i can't think of what i'd ask him tomorrow,if i met him,-maybe start a thread of questions for joe? big_smile  I know he sometimes dips into the forum,so maybe an AskJoe thread might work?Knowing my luck, there's already one and i just haven't found it yet! smile

Come on you Blades!

Re: newcastle in october...

The PAUL KOSSOFF awesome sound hit the ears of a NEWCASTLE crowd again after many years, JOE even got the KOSS wide vibrato so spot on it was unreal, us seven sixty year old's had a trip back in time, many thanks JOE and BAND a show to remember.

Re: newcastle in october...

Duet was scheduled for Glasgow........................Bird on a Wire and it was brilliant.  Sandi had been with Joe throughout his U.K tour and Glasgow was her last night before returning to her home to prepare for her own tour.

Rock on and keep the faith!!

Re: newcastle in october...

That's me back from my latest travels and there's nothing I can add to the Newcastle & Glasgow gigs with regard to the standard set list. But it was an honour and a privelege to be at my favourite UK venue seeing Joe use my all time hero's Les Paul guitar and play Mr Big no less. It brought back memories of being in Free's dressing room in Aberdeen when I was an awe struck 16 year old and getting Paul Kossoff's autograph. Joe said playing the guitar was the same for him as if it was Hendrix's guitar and to me that is the ultimate accolade for Koss.

I sent a fair amount of texts to friends after the show (including Maggie) and the overwhelming reaction was WOW. Everyone who knows me well knows how much I idolise Koss so thank you Joe and thank you to the guitar's owner who I believe was in the Beckett group from the north-east (Terry Wilson Slesser's old band).

Just wanted to share this with you all.

Re: newcastle in october...

That is too funny.....it happened to me in New Jersey last August...Joe walked into a bar right next to the theater.....i was with 3 other buddies and when i saw him i immediatly knew it was him.....noone in the entire bar knew who he was.....i didn't want to seem like an obsessed fan (although i am!!!)  so i waited a bit and finally got the nerve to ask for and autograph....he kindly signed the pic i had brought!!!  so back to the tiny bar stool 4 seats from him i went......i was astounded that he!! JOE BONAMASSA was for the moment just another bloke ( that's what they say in England right?) well we in the USA say dude!!!   Anyway.....after making  driving my buddies crazy with my desire to want to chat with him.....off i went!!!   Ya know what i asked Joe!!!!??????   So you're a Yankee fan.....who's your football team (that's American football) i was so numb i forgot what he said!!!!  we were chit chatting about the jets, giants, bill, mets, and yankees......he was so freaking cool that i forgot i was talking to the greatest guitarist alive!!!.........sorry to carry on with this....but he  is such a cool dude...it's hard to believe!!!!!  but you good people already knew that!!!!!

Re: newcastle in october...

It's been a little while coming, but here is Warren's overdub from the sound board, of Joe playing Mr Big on Paul Kossoff's guitar. Honestly all I did was put the camera on the tripod! Everything else was done by Warren - What a star! - great day for me and Sue - Thanks again!
