Topic: Used guitar strings/StringsforaCURE
Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month I thought I'd make a post about a project I am helping out my cousin Elisa Guida with. Elisa is a 2 time breast cancer survivor who owns and operates a jewelry business for thirty plus years since graduating from college as an art major. Recently Elisa secured non-profit corporation status in Pennsylvania, established a board and started a foundation entitled StringsforaCURE.
The concept is to secure used strings from musicians, turn the strings into jewelry so they can be sold on the StringsforaCURE website. The money raised from the jewelry sales will be used to help advise newly diagnosed breast cancer patients and also supply financial support for those in need. You can read more about this at the Mission Statement tab on the site.

I was able to get some of Joe's strings through a joint effort of Jim Moody, Dave, Cathy & George. As most of you know, George lost his beloved wife to breast cancer and a friend turned him on to Joe's music and he ended up meeting Cathy on this forum. They secured Joe's first batch of strings right around the one year anniversary of George losing his wife. So, Joe Bonamassa was the first musician to donate guitar strings and get things started!! Thanks Joe!!
So, look around the site and check out some of the artists that have contributed strings. Elisa lives in Erie, Pennsylvania, so she has secured some local artists strings. Strings that have been secured, but are not yet made into jewelry are from: Carlos Santana, Todd Rundgren & Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders . Promised strings that hopefully will be arriving soon are: Oli Brown and Davy Knowles. Also, there is a chance Tommy Castro's tech will be mailing in some strings.
Elisa has more Joe strings which are from 4 different guitars during different timelines in his career. The strings were removed from: the Chandler Strat, Red Les Paul, the Gigliotti and his Larivee Acoustic. If you are interested in a custom piece of jewelry, you can contact Elisa directly. Consider me a public relations contact for spreading the word, I'm not involved in setting the prices and Joe's forum is not the place to get into that.
Here are some ways you can help out if you are interested:
If you have an opportunity to secure a musician's strings, you can print out a pdf file, fill out the release form and mail it with the strings to the address on the form. It is very important that the strings be used by the artist to be authentic. Think of it as recycling guitar strings that would otherwise be going in the trash to raise money for a good cause. If you need a pre-paid mailer, feel free to e-mail me through the forum.
