will never forget the day and watching events unfold live on TV, - worried about friends who worked downtown Manhattan, - my then 2 year old son playing with his lego on the floor in front of me, - building towers out of the lego and then knocking them down, - it brought a tear to the eye to see such innocence combined with the horror on TV.
And today another emotional reminder for me, - it is my son's group guitar lesson today (14 of them learn songs together to play before and audience once a term) and being the first day back after their summer break the guitar teacher gets out the first tab sheet for them to start: "Fragile" by Sting. - Whilst the song was not written specifically for 9-11 it fits very well, - and it is even more poignant for the fact that on that day 9 years ago Sting was playing a gig in Italy that was recorded for a live album and Fragile was the first song played. I have the album and always found it very reverent to what happened, - I was sitting back and as you might expect the kids did not see the symbolism with this song, - but after i went up to the teacher and asked if he picked this song because of today's date, - he looked at me blank, - I asked if he knew about the song and the concert on 9-1, - again blank looks, - I showed him the lyrics and the response was "ahhhhh".... A complete coincidence it would appear.
"If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay
Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are
How fragile we are how fragile we are"
