Topic: 9 Years Ago Today...

Haven't known of a minute (or more)'s silence, for today... but I have anyway... Was only 7 when '9/11' happened, but what it shock it was, and still is, to think how horrifying the World is sometimes... My thoughts go out to those who were lost on that terrible day, and to the Families who still suffer at the cause of it  sad R.I.P to the 2977 innocent people...

Re: 9 Years Ago Today...

This is one of those awful events in history where one can remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news of this event.
My thoughts to those directly affected by the tragedy, but we all are affected one way or another by the ongoing aftermath.
Peace

A senseless tragedy that impacted our entire world.
My blood still boils knowing the person behind this event still walks this earth.
I hope that he is not allowed to die a natural death.

Re: 9 Years Ago Today...

The events of 9/11 shook me just the way I felt on 11/22/1963, hearing the news that JFK had been shot and then hearing he died. Watching the towers collapse on TV was an absolutely surreal experience. All gave some, some gave all that fateful day. NEVER FORGET!!!

Don't worry Bill, his justice will be more than served after this life.

Such a sad, sad day not only for America, but for the world. The death of nearly 3,000 people in the matter of one morning. My hope is that God stepped in at the last moment and brought them home.

Re: 9 Years Ago Today...

will never forget the day and watching events unfold live on TV, - worried about friends who worked downtown Manhattan, - my then 2 year old son playing with his lego on the floor in front of me, - building towers out of the lego and then knocking them down, - it brought  a tear to the eye to see such innocence combined with the horror on TV.

And today another emotional reminder for me, - it is my son's group guitar lesson today (14 of them learn songs together to play before and audience once a term) and being the first day back after their summer break the guitar teacher gets out the first tab sheet for them to start: "Fragile" by Sting. - Whilst the song was not written specifically for 9-11 it fits very well, - and it is even more poignant for the fact that on that day 9 years ago Sting was playing a gig in Italy that was recorded for a live album and Fragile was the first song played. I have the album and always found it very reverent to what happened, -  I was sitting back and as you might expect the kids did not see the symbolism with this song, - but after i went up to the teacher and asked if he picked this song because of today's date, - he looked at me blank, - I asked if he knew about the song and the concert on 9-1, - again blank looks, - I showed him the lyrics and the response was "ahhhhh".... A complete coincidence it would appear.

"If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay
Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are how fragile we are
How fragile we are how fragile we are"

Re: 9 Years Ago Today...

How very nicely put Ian. The words say it all.
I remember the day like it was yesterday. Work stopped. Everyone clustered around the TV in shock, then horror, then anguish as the tragic drama unfolded in front of our eyes. Our nation still carries a deep scar as does much of the world.
My heart still aches.  sad
May peace rise from the ashes of the ruin.

... +1

...but to all the Good that were lost that day... your missed by many!... i must get to ground zero and stand there!... say a few words to the lost souls that remain there!... be at peace all of you!

Shows our age, Jdawg...agree with every word.

It was afternoon in the office here...someone stuck their head around the corner and said, 'Hey, check out the news, some kind of plane crash right in NYC'. Fruitless minutes trying to access CNN or the BBC since many thousands were trying at the same time...eventually got on CNN in time to see the second plane crash on live tv...utterly surreal....no more work got done that day as we all watched our screens with slack-jawed disbelief at what was happening.

After work, my wife and I walked the 10 minutes to the US Consulate here. A few dozen people stood in silence, some sticking flowers into the surrounding fence, most with tears quietly rolling down their cheeks, us included. A young American student stood next to where we were, also sobbing. I walked towards her, our wet eyes met, our arms opened, and we silently hugged each other through our tears. I have no idea who she was and I never saw her again, but it was one of those rare moments of grief-sharing with a complete stranger that neither of us will ever forget.
