Hey Tres, do yourself a favor and attend the PGA next year. The majors have a much different feel than normal tournaments. Not sure if it's the set up of the courses or the way the players treat it, but they are special. This was my third PGA having been to another one in Medinah, Illinois. I also have been to two or three U.S. Senior Opens and one U.S. Open. That U. S. Open was at Medinah also and I've never seen so many people on one golf course at one time.
Rick, even though it was a hot and humid day, once that rain started pelting us with the strong wind it did send a chill down my spine. I looked at Dawn and she had goosebumps, so she decided to go back to the car and wait for me. I wanted to see Mickelson come though the 7th and so I waited for four or five groups of golfers. By the time Mickelson showed up, I was almost dry because the wind was blowing so hard, but still could feel the chill and dampness from the rain. I should have known, living my entire life close to Lake Michigan, never to trust her and should have brought along a sweatshirt. Oh well, it's good to be 57 years of age and still learning.
I do congratulate Martin Kaymer for the win. He played the course at the end the way it should have been played with the wind blowing. However, I really feel for Dustin Johnson. I can't imagine that both he and his caddie never thought about being in sand. True, it didn't look like a sand trap because everyone had been standing in it, but the ball was clearly lying on sand. According to the explanation by the officials, they said because of the number and irregularity of the sand bunkers on this course, they made rule number one that if you were in sand it was considered a sand trap and not a waste bunker. Still, Dustin and his caddie's thoughts at the time were how Dustin could win the tournament rather than whether he was in a trap nor not. Hey, he battled back from blowing up in the U.S. Open, he'll battle back from this too and I expect it won't be long before his name is on a Major trophy.
5 years from now I'll be right back again to see the PGA unfold at this very same course.
