Topic: Southern Rock

We all have our favorite song and group. I'll take "THE OUTLAWS" with "GREENGRASS AND HIGH TIDES". A close second would be " Skynard" with " Simple Man". If you dont play it loud your probably just being considerate to the neighbors.

Can my southern rockers hear me?

Re: Southern Rock

Needle and the Spoon by Skynyrd is one of my favorites.

Re: Southern Rock

I think Molly Hatchet is a good choice too. I go for Bloody Reunion and Beatin'the odds from Double Trouble Live.

Andre Wittebroek.

Re: Southern Rock

.Ill take anything from Two for the Road skynard ,love molly hatchet. If you want some good southern rock not as well known try Raging Slabs dynamite boogie concert, from the 90"s but could have been from the 70's.Favorite song may be Give Me Three Steps by skynard.

Re: Southern Rock

Nobody has mentioned the band that started it all the Allman Brothers.Duane was the best saw them play at the fillmore east in 1970 and painter's mill 2 weeks before duane died.

Re: Southern Rock

Yes Taurus!! Allman Brothers! "Tied to the Whipping Post". And Painters Mill, in "the round", (there's some memories). I suggest people try some early Little Feat esp. the live "Waiting for Columbus"...first song.."Fat Man in the Bathtub"...You won't be able to sit still. And, if Texas is allowed, I add ZZ Top..

Budda, don't know them but I'll check them out. Tarus, were you at the Bonnie Raitt/ John Lee Hooker show at P.M? Hooker had this GREAT guitar player named Albert Lee (not Alvin/10 yrs after). The only guy I can find under that name is a country player. Do you know if it's the same guy?

Re: Southern Rock

Skynyrd's my alltime fav...Second Helping being my pick for best southern rock album.  Dixie Chicken is the best studio album from Little Feat but the live album has great versions of Willin' , Dixie Chicken and Oh Atlanta.  Special props out to the Atlanta Rhythm Section and Barry Bailey...one whoopazz guitar picker.

"why isn't the number "11" pronounced "onety one"???....S. Wright.

Re: Southern Rock

OK, this topic strikes a main nerve with J Dawg. What about The Marshall Tucker Band, The Charlie Daniels Band, Wet Willie, and The Henry Paul Band (after he left the Outlaws), just to mention a few. As long as I can remember Little Feat were based out of LA, but that New Orleans beat they perfected makes you think of the south. Let's not forget .38 Special and Blackfoot too. Larry Junstrom, .38's bass player was in Skynyrd before Leon Wilkeson joined them and Rickey Medlocke played drums with them before he left and became lead guitar in Blackfoot. Ironically Rickey is back in Skynyrd sharing lead duty with Gary Rossington. Before Hughie Thomason put the Outlaws back together he was the third guitarist in Skynyrd for about 7 or 8 yrs. With Gary, Rickey, and Hughie leading the guitar assault in Skynyrd over the last decade they never sounded better since the original line-up met it's demise. Check out Live from Steel Town or Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve on DVD and see what I mean. To remember THE REAL DEAL you gotta watch Freebird the Movie and dig the footage of the original band in England opening for the Stones.

Thanks Michael, just trying to stir things up!  I got to put "The River" at the top of all of Joe's music. Seing it on Rockpalast was a highlight this year. Hope it's on set list in May, catching him twice in a week

                  Peace Shredit
