OK, this topic strikes a main nerve with J Dawg. What about The Marshall Tucker Band, The Charlie Daniels Band, Wet Willie, and The Henry Paul Band (after he left the Outlaws), just to mention a few. As long as I can remember Little Feat were based out of LA, but that New Orleans beat they perfected makes you think of the south. Let's not forget .38 Special and Blackfoot too. Larry Junstrom, .38's bass player was in Skynyrd before Leon Wilkeson joined them and Rickey Medlocke played drums with them before he left and became lead guitar in Blackfoot. Ironically Rickey is back in Skynyrd sharing lead duty with Gary Rossington. Before Hughie Thomason put the Outlaws back together he was the third guitarist in Skynyrd for about 7 or 8 yrs. With Gary, Rickey, and Hughie leading the guitar assault in Skynyrd over the last decade they never sounded better since the original line-up met it's demise. Check out Live from Steel Town or Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve on DVD and see what I mean. To remember THE REAL DEAL you gotta watch Freebird the Movie and dig the footage of the original band in England opening for the Stones.
The South Will Rise Again,
J Dawg
